Spaces for Parks and Rec. Summer Programs Still Available

Don't miss your chance to sign up for a bevy of summer fun offered by the town this year.

"Act fast and sign up now as classes are beginning to fill! Don’t be left out this summer season!"

That's the sounding call coming out of the East Greenwich Parks and Recreation Department this May day.

The department has spaces available for programs that will be offered this summer. The department is offering many great programs and activities for toddlers, children, teens, adults and seniors. As always preregistration is required for all participants in all programs.

Back by popular demand is the Boys Summer Basketball League. Two divisions will be formed based on the grade a player will be entering, 6th & 7th grade division or the 8th & 9th division. This league will take place Monday and Wednesdays nights. For those who will be attending the high school this upcoming year, the department will be offering High School Basketball on Tuesday nights.  

The department is pleased to announce the start of an Ultimate Frisbee League for middle and high school students to be held on Tuesday and Thursday nights at the high school. Participants will work on new skills as well as play in a 7 on 7 game each session. Ever think of trying golf or think of improving golf skills? Come learn from a golf-pro during Golf Lessons at the East Greenwich Golf Course on Thursday mornings! This program is offered for children ages 10-13. Many toddler programs being offered this summer season including Family Music Time. This program will provide children ages 1-5, a nurturing environment while they learn through song and dance. Squeaky Sneakers will be offered for children 2-3 years old. This program will teach children independence through games and activities. Be sure to check the flyer as more toddler programs are being offered.

The department will also be offering many specialty camps this summer that run from 9-11am at the high school. Some of the specialty camps include Chess, where children can learn the basics and improve on skills through instruction and game.  Self Defense will offer children guidance in the basics of self-defense, this class is known to boost youth self-esteem and coordination. KidzArt, will offer children a great time while building their creativity and fine art techniques. Many different sessions will be taught this summer including Baskets, Beads and Boxes, Wings, Wheels or Water, Global Art and AnimalzArt.  Youth Baking and Cooking classes will teach children the fundamentals of working in a kitchen. Children will be proud to show off what they have learned in the classes. Theatrical Camps include Drama Games, Old Time Radio and a Summer Theater Production. At the conclusion of these classes family and friends are welcomed to enjoy a performance. 

The Basketball specialty camp will offer children a fun instructional atmosphere as they learn the skills of basketball. Boys and girls in this program will be given equal amounts of playing time and all abilities are welcome.

At the conclusion of each Specialty Camp day, the Playground Program will be offered afterwards for children entering grades 1-6th. This program will provide children with a fun atmosphere under supervision from 11:30-3:00pm. Children will get to participate in local trips, play games and enjoy weekly performances. 

Teen Specialty Camps will be offered this year for children entering 6th, 7th and 8th grades. Camps include Animation Creation, Robotics and CSI-EG, each class is sure to teach participants something exciting and innovative!

Adult exercise classes will be offered this summer including Body Conditioning, Define Yourself, and Zumba. Take more than one class for a discounted rate! Adult tennis lessons and adult soccer will also be offered this summer. These programs are designed for all abilities.
