Monday Essentials: First Day Of School, Summer's End Concert

On Monday,

EG Farmers Market: The market, with fresh vegetables and fruits; locally raised beef, pork, poultry and seafood; baked goods and prepared foods, is a great place to pick up food for the week, visit with friends and neighbors and let the kids run around. On the Rector Street side of Academy Field. From 3 to 6 p.m.

Town Council meeting: Among the items on the agenda is third reading and approval of the town’s comprehensive plan. That’s inside baseball to mosto f us, but a huge deal in terms of how the town will evolve in coming years. Look for a more complete story in coming days. The meeting takes place at 7 p.m. at Town Hall.

Antiques auction: Briarbrook is holding an antiques and fine furnishings auction at the Varnum Armory on Main Street, starting at 5 p.m.

Treasurer Raimondo's 'Smart Money' Tour: State Treasurer (and potential gubernatorial candidate) Gina Raimondo will be at Swift Community Center from 10:45 to 11:45 Thursday morning.

Goddard Park Farmers Market: The market at Goddard Park is back. It’s a great way to get ready for the weekend. Off Ives Road, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Summer’s End concert: The U.S. Navy Band is back for a second year of great music, but that’s only part of it – there will be a variety of musical offerings at the concert Friday night, with music beginning at 5 p.m. One word to the wise this year: NO ONE IS ALLOWED ON THE ELDREDGE FIELD UNTIL 3:30 P.M.! Here’s the lineup: 5pm: Official Kick Off; 5:15-5:30pm: Children's Parade led by local circus troupers; 5:30pm The Lost Arts; 6pm The Three Amigos; 6:30pm: Harold Ambler; 7:00pm: The Hurricanes; 7:15pm: US NAVY BAND NORTHEAST'S POPS ENSEMBLE sound check; 7:30pm:  Colour of London; 7:55pm: Presentation of the Varnum Continentals Color Guard and recognition of US Veterans; 8pm National Anthem and US NAVY BAND NORTHEAST'S POPS ENSEMBLE.

On Saturday …

East Greenwich Art Festival: The third-annual arts fest takes place Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the New England Tech campus on Division Road. The arts festival will feature over 150 contemporary American art and crafts artists along with strolling entertainment including Rhode Island’s Big Nazo. The festival will feature items big and small including jewelry, ceramics, paintings, sculpture, fiber and home accessories.
