Monday Essentials: NECAP forum, NO Recycle Pickup

Your guide for life in East Greenwich this week.

On Monday ... 

EG Farmers Market: Swing by Academy Field this afternoon and pick up prepared foods (Middle Eastern delights from the Deli or pizza from Bravo), items to grill (seafood from Matunuck Oysters, meats from Pat’s Pastured), and lots of fresh vegetables, as well as breads and pastries. From 3 to 6 p.m.

Christ Community Kitchen: This is a monthly community meal at St. Luke's Church but open to everyone. Whether you could use a free meal or some companionship, you are welcome. Dinner is served in the dining room from 5 to 6 p.m. Free but donations are accepted.

NO recycle pickup this week: Just a reminder – we are on an every-other-week pickup schedule for recyclables now, so just trash goes to the curb this week.

School Committee meeting: The panel meets in the library at Cole Middle School at 7 p.m. You’ll find the agenda here.

EG Art Club meeting: The East Greenwich Art Club meets Tuesday night at 7 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, 30 Pierce St. The guest artist is painter Christine McIntyre-Hannon.

On Wednesday …

Affordable Housing Commission meeting: The panel meets at 3 p.m. in a conference room at Town Hall. You can read the agenda here.

Cove Commission meeting: The Cove Commission meets at 4:30 p.m. in the conference room across from Council Chambers at Town Hall. You can find the agenda here.

NECAP forum: In response to the vigorous statewide debate over the use of the NECAP test as a high school graduation requirement and a broader national debate over standardized testing, two local youth advocacy groups have planned a community forum to discuss the issue. It takes place Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. at Warwick City Hall in the Council Chambers. You can find out about the panelists here.

On Thursday …

Planning R.I.’s future: Rhode Map RI is holding a “Great Places” workshop in East Greenwich Thursday from 5 to 7:30 p.m. in the Community Room at the Police Department. From the website, “RhodeMap RI is an opportunity for you, Rhode Island’s residents, to help shape the future of our communities and our state. How do we preserve Rhode Island’s unique character while ensuring that all Rhode Islanders have safe and healthy housing as well access to jobs and economic opportunities? How and where should growth happen over the next decades without harming the natural and historic areas that we value?” There’s lots more. You’ll find it here.

Goddard Park Farmers Market: The market at Goddard Park is back. It’s a great way to get ready for the weekend. Off Ives Road, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
