Monday Essentials: Two School Holidays, School Committee & Art Club

Your guide for life in East Greenwich this week.

On Monday …

No trash pickup: Because of the Labor Day holiday yesterday, trash pickup is delayed a day all week, so if your trash is usually picked up on Monday, it will be picked up on Tuesday this week.

EG Farmers Market: The market, with fresh vegetables and fruits; locally raised beef, pork, poultry and seafood; baked goods and prepared foods, is a great place to pick up food for the week, visit with friends and neighbors and let the kids run around. On the Rector Street side of Academy Field. From 3 to 6 p.m.

Labor Day: From the U.S. Dept. of Labor website, “Labor Day, the first Monday in September, is a creation of the labor movement and is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers. It constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country.”

School Committee meeting: On the agenda is a vote on the Aramark food service contract. The meeting takes place in the library at Cole Middle School and begins at 7 p.m. You’ll find the full agenda here.

EG Art Club meeting: The East Greenwich Art Club will be holding their first  monthly meeting of the season Tuesday at the First Baptist Church of EG at 7 p.m. The guest artist Bill Gallagher. Surfer’s Healing fundraiser: Shop Whole Foods in Cranston on Tuesday and you’ll be helping Surfer’s Healing RI, an organization that works with children with autism. Whole Foods will be donating 5 percent of their sales to Surfer’s Healing RI. Yes, that’s right…all you have to do is buy awesome stuff at Whole Food’s Cranston location on Tuesday, September 3rd and this fab store will donate 5% of its sales to give Rhode Island kids with autism and their families a day at the beach, surfing the waves of Narragansett.

On Wednesday …

Cove Commission meeting: The panel meets at 4:30 in the Town Council conference room at Town Hall. Among the agenda items is discussion of rights of way and dredging of the town boat ramp and dock area. You’ll find the full agenda here.

Planning Board meeting: This panel meets at 7 p.m. in Council Chambers at Town Hall. The agenda includes application for master plan approval for Frenchtown Commons, the development shared with North Kingstown on Frenchtown Road. You’ll find the full meeting agenda here.

On Thursday ... 

Rosh Hashanah: The Jewish New Year begins Wednesday evening at sunset and continues through Thursday. East Greenwich public schools are closed. Shanah Tovah!

On Friday …

Goddard Park Farmers Market: The market at Goddard Park is back. It’s a great way to get ready for the weekend. Off Ives Road, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
