Week Ahead: School Committee, Planning Board Meet

A glance at upcoming meetings and events in East Greenwich.

It's a busy week in East Greenwich this week.

Tonight, the East Greenwich Historic Preservation Society meets at 6:30 p.m. at Fireman's Hall at 80 Queen Street. Come and meet baseball legend and East Greenwich native Wilma Briggs, who will talk about her years as a professional left fielder in the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League during the 1940s and 50s. The tam inspired the 1992 classic, "A League of Their Own," starring Tom Hanks and Geena Davis.

On Tuesday, the School Committee will meet at the Archie R. Cole Middle School Library at 7 p.m. Among the items on the agenda is a recognition for the Cole boys' basketball team, appointments of coaches fro Cole and East Greenwich High School and an update on Aramark, the district's food service provider. Also on Tuesday, the EG Special Education Advisory Committee will meet at 9:30 a.m. in the school administration building at 11 Pierce St. Parents will discuss ongoing projects, programs and issues affecting special education students as well as an update from Bradley Wilson, director of special education and student services. Also meeting on Tuesday is the East Greenwich Historic Cemetery Advisory Commission at 6 p.m. in council chambers.

On Wednesday, the Planning Board meets at 7 p.m. in Town Council chambers in Town Hall. The board will discuss Zoning Ordinance amendments relating to appeals and a draft wind ordinance.

On Saturday, the Hanaford Girls Event takes place from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hanaford School. With music, dancing and light refreshments, the event is a special night for all Hanaford girls and their adult guest of choice.
