Navy Band, Local Acts Headline Summer's End Friday Night

Important changes: the field will not open until 3:30 p.m. and the Children's Parade takes place at 5:15!

For the second year in a row, the U.S. Navy Band is headlining the Summer's End concert at Eldredge Field.

The U.S. Navy Band is back for a second year of music for the 18th annual Summer's End concert Friday evening, Aug. 30.

Their performance will be the culmination but hardly the only highlight of the evening, which begins at 5 p.m.

There are a few changes this year. Firstly, no one will be allowed on the field until 3:30 p.m. In other words, you can't stake out a spot at noon, even if it just means leaving chairs and a blanket. The Summer's End crew wants the field completely clear for set up.

In addition, this year the popular Children's Parade will take place earlier – at 5:15. The children will be led by local circus troupers.

As usual, there will be some vendors selling food and drinks, but picnics are welcome. It's dark by the end of the concert – the field lights come on, but a flash light isn't a bad idea.

The event is free, but donations will be accepted at the gates (and greatly appreciated!).

Rain date is Saturday, Aug. 31.
