Take Your Pick from a Pumpkin Patch Near EG This Weekend

It's October — and that means finding the perfect gourd for this year's jack o'lantern — or pumpkin pies.

As the once-green leaves turn shades of orange and red, there's no doubt that fall is upon us.

And with just a couple of weeks until Halloween, it's a great time to venture out to local farms and check out their recent crop of pumpkins, or grab a bag or two of apples for apple pies.

Many places around East Greenwich also offer hay rides and other activities for the family — there are even special fall-themed events, like 

Here's a brief list of farms near East Greenwich, and what they're offering, that we found on PumpkinPatchesandMore.org — you can also check out Farm Fresh RI for more information, including hours and directions.

  • Narrow Lane Orchard – Pumpkins and apples. Narrow Lane Orchard is run by Stephen Grenier. At 213 Narrow Lane, North Kingstown, (401) 294-3584.  
  • Morris Farm – corn maze, pumpkin patch, hayrides, 2779 Warwick Avenue, Warwick. Phone: (401) 738-1036. We grow vegetables, have tractor rides, run greenhouses and care for cows, chickens and horses. Visitors are welcome to walk around the farm and see the animals.  Walking tours of farm, tractor trailer rides and discussion of methods to organically control weeds and pests. Group planting tours in the spring and pumpkin picking in the fall. Birthday parties with horse rides and trailer rides to visit the cows. Corn Maze with scavenger hunt. Farm fresh vegetables in-season, sweet corn, summer squash, cucumbers, peppers, eggplant, beans. 
  • Schartner's – Fresh fruit and veg,pies, cookies, huge floral section with a few green houses. In the winter they offer Christmas trees.
    1 Arnold Place, Exter, RI, 02822. Phone: 401-294-2044. They have hay rides and a cornfield maze that leads to a pumpkin patch during the fall. They also sell cider and home-made french fries in the fall.
  • Spring Hill Sugar House – pumpkins, pumpkin patch-pick in the field, Fall festival, corn maze, straw or hay bale maze, Maple Syrup from trees on the farm, Cider mill (fresh apple cider made on the premises), farm animals. 522 Gardner Road, Richmond.
