Weekend Agenda: Armory Tour, Veterans Day Parade

On Saturday …

VIP Varnum Armory Tour: The Friends of the East Greenwich Free Library is offering a VIP pass to the Varnum Armory Museum to 25 lucky people. This is a rare chance to explore a hidden gem in our town. Curator Don Marcum will lead a tour of the military museum at Varnum Armory. The program will give participants the opportunity to see military artifacts from 16th century to the present and view some of the museum's collection of 600 original WW 1 and 2 posters from the US, Canada and Europe as well as chance to experience the ambience of this  1913 National Register of Historic Places building.  Reservations suggested, space is limited: call 885-9510, ext. 3.

Children's book author to read: Children and adults will meet friends Keeno and Ernest, a monkey and an elephant – who get into some wacky adventures together. Author Maggie van Galen will perform an interactive book reading featuring the two characters in puppet form as well as an arts and crafts project at the EG Free Library at 10:30 a.m.

Mastery Martial Arts Grand Opening: The new Mastery Martial Arts' East Greenwich Academy holds its grand opening Saturday, starting at noon. Radio personalities from 92 Pro-FM will be on hand noon to 2 p.m. Watch the high-energy Mastery XMA demo team; learn how to break a real wooden board and try a basic martial arts' class or cardio kickboxing class.

Village School Fall Fest & Open House: The Village Lower School is holding its annual Fall Festival & Open House Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. There will be activities for the whole family, including face painting, hay rides, and crafts. 2220 South County Trail.

Reading at Davisville Free Library: Local author Michelle Moschetti will read from her books Torn Ribbons and Tangled Ribbons at the Davisville Free Library in North Kingstown at 2 p.m.

Women helping women shopping event: The P.E.O Sisterhood-Chapter F Rhode Island invites you to attend "Shop Smart ... Support Women's  Education,” Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m. at the East Greenwich United Methodist Church, 1558 South County Trail. Great vendors all in one place. A percentage of all merchandise sold will go to support the P.E.0 Sisterhoods Philanthropies.

On Sunday …

Adopt-A-Pet Open House: Animals are available for viewing and adoption today with the assistance of a dedicated East Greenwich Animal Protection League member. The open house takes place at Greenwich Bay Animal Hospital from 10:30 to 1 p.m. Individual appointments are also available.

Gourmet Food & Wine Experience: Savor a fall day of thoughtfully prepared food & wine at Jonathan Edwards Winery in North Stonington, Conn.  Hosted by The Savory Affair & The Savory Grape Wine Shop. Enjoy a private tour, tasting, and three-course lunch prepared by Chef David Dadekian from Blackbird Farm in Smithfield, and a blending exercise using samples from various barrels. $125 per person includes roundtrip transportation from East Greenwich. Sea Scouts Pasta Dinner: Support the Sea Scouts Ship 1909 and enjoy a great dinner too. Pasta, meatballs, salad, dessert for $10, with children under 6 free and all Scouts $8. Grief Support: This group at Christ Church is open to anyone who is grieving the loss of a loved one. Each session begins with a video followed by discussion. On Monday …

Veterans Day Parade: The annual parade steps off at 10 a.m. from Academy Field, marches up Spring Street, across Mawney Street, down First Avenue to the WWI war memorial for a wreath laying, and south on Main Street to final ceremonies in front of Town Hall.

Women Warriors 2013 Luncheon: The Quidnessett Country Club, 630WPRO & 99.7FM, AM790, 92PROFM and Lite Rock 105 are partnering with area businesses to raise money to benefit Operation Stand Down Rhode Island’s Cpl. Holly Charette Home. Indoor farmers market: If you haven't been to East Greenwich's Indoor Winter Market, stop by this Veteran's Day as the "Arts & Farms" will be open for its usual weekly hours. Serving hot coffee and selling many of your grocery needs our lovely market will provide an nice little outing and shopping experience for this holiday. This week we will have a full Art Gallery on our first floor show room offering paintings, crafts, inspirational tees, jewelry and more. In the Farmers' hall we'll be listening to Samuel Adamo on cello once more, saying hello to our pet goats, Peaches-n-Cream and Trinity, and gathering the kids together for our weekly story hour from 5 to 6 p.m. by Wendy Fachon. From 3 to 6 p.m.
