Weekend Agenda: Outdoor Movie, Torat Yisrael Open House & Pirates!

On Saturday …

“Hotel Transylvania” Saturday: The animated movie “Hotel Transylvania” will be shown Saturday night at Academy Field under the stars. All are welcome to this family-friendly event put on the Main Street Association. Bring lawn chairs, blankets and friends! It’s free and will begin around 8:15. Rain date is Sunday (but it looks like we won't need that!).

Karate/Kickboxing studio opens on Main St.: All are invited to the grand opening of Shotokan Karate & Kickboxing at 58 Main Street (above Silver Spoon Bakery – you can exercise then pick up a cupcake on the way out!). Owner Charlotte Clendening will be teaching Zumba, karate, and kickboxing. From noon to 3:3 p.m.

Pirates at Smith’s Castle: Set sail for an adventure at Smith’s Castle on Post Road in NK to see PIRATES! Against All Flags. Neal Kirk, aka Captain William Kidd, founder/commander of Free Men Of the Sea, a pirate living-history reenactment group, will display his exhibit of original and reproduction artifacts to depict the reality and myths about the Golden Age of Piracy. PIRATES! Against All Flags focuses on the pirates of the Red Sea trade that were common in New England from about 1690 to 1720. If you love things piratical, you’ll enjoy this exhibit. Admission to the indoor PIRATES! Exhibit is $8 adults, $3 children 6-12, and free for children under 6. Rated “Arrrr” for all ages! The exhibit will be available for viewing from noon to 4 p.m. on every Saturday in August.

Torat Yisrael open house: East Greenwich’s first-ever temple, which opened in the spring, is inviting the public to visit their brand-new digs. Sunday morning starting at 9:30 a.m.

One-day dog adoption event: “Always Adopt,” in partnership with Inskip of Warwick, is holding a one-day dog adoption event at Inskip’s Lexus and Infiniti dealerships on Bald Hill Road in Warwick, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
