Reading for Hunger: First Lutheran Church is offering books - all kinds of books - for "sale." Bring one nonperishable food item, and you can "buy" a paperback; bring two nonperishable food items, you can "buy" a hardcover. Their Christ's Cupboard Food Pantry needs pasta, sauce, beans, jelly, soups, macaroni & cheese, tuna fish, peanut butter, hot & cold cereal, tea bags, cocoa packets, canned vegetables, instant potatoes, juice boxes, fruit cups, instant rice, instant pudding, and canned fruit. On Saturday and Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m.

Arts in R.I. Handmade: Handmade goods like jewelry, ceramics, photography, ornaments, and more, amid a festive, welcoming atmosphere. Where the snowmen are – in the Red Barn, 30 Middle Road. 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Guns & Beer at Varnum Armory: If you like beer, then you'll love this event.  The Varnum Continentals' 4th Annual Autumn Beer Tasting takes place Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Varnum Memorial Armory. The antique Gatling gun and military machine guns from the Armory Museum will be on exhibit during the event. Proceeds benefit our efforts to preserve history, promote patriotism, and provide education to young people and adults alike. In partnership with The Savory Grape Wine Shop, this event will feature a wide range of artisan beers (from pilsners to porters) and light appetizers. Also, we will offer tours of the armory's world-class collection of military memorabilia and armaments. Advance tickets are $20 per person. Tickets sold at the door on event night are $25 per person. Adopt-A-Pet Open House: Animals are available for viewing and adoption today with the assistance of a dedicated East Greenwich Animal Protection League member. The open house takes place at Greenwich Bay Animal Hospital from 10:30 to 1 p.m. Individual appointments are also available.

Surviving the Holidays While Grieving: The Grief Care group will be holding a seminar on Surviving the Holidays while Grieving. It will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Christ Church Office condo. This is open to anyone who is grieving the loss of a loved one, whether you have attended our Grief Care group or not. If possible, please rsvp to the Church Office (884-8632 or info@christchurchec.org) so we have an idea of numbers attending. Register for the Hill and Harbour Turkey Trot: The third annual Hill and Harbour Turkey Trot takes place the Saturday after Thanksgiving. The day’s activities will include a 1-mile kids fun run, a certified 5K race, DJ, face painting, and the chance to work off some of that pumpkin pie! Register at www.eastgreenwich5k.com.
