Dr. Drench was an author and a popular lecturer in physical therapy and behavioral sciences and was known for her sharp wit and humor.
Meredith E. Drench, PhD., PT, 63, of East Greenwich, passed away peacefully on May 17, at the Philip Hulitar Inpatient Center, Providence. A graduate of Boston and Northeastern Universities she earned her Doctorate at Union Institute and University and was a professor of physical therapy at Northeastern, Dr. Drench was also an author and a popular lecturer in physical therapy and behavioral sciences and was known for her sharp wit and humor. She worked with health care facilities, associations, agencies and universities, including the Veterans' Administration in Boston. She was born in New York City and grew up in New Jersey. Ralph will be remembered for his unmatched generosity and kindness to all as well as his unfailing wit.
Ralph E. 'Chink' Marden, 97, of East Greenwich, passed away peacefully from this life on May 16, surrounded by his loving family. Ralph was born on March 27, 1916, in Attleboro, Mass., the son of Ralph and Maude E. (Purdy) Marden. A graduate of East Greenwich Academy, he attained the rank of master sergeant in the U.S. Army during WWII. Ralph married Mary J. Moretti on August 29, 1942, and together they raised six children. An electrician by trade, he retired from Electric Boat and was active in his community, especially Boy Scouts and Little League. Edward J. Corbett, 101, passed away May 11. He was the husband of the late Eleanor J. (O'Donnell) Corbett. Born in County Cork, Ireland he was a son of the late Randalls and Kate (Flanagan) Corbett. Mr. Corbett was a retired police officer for the City of Boston and a WWII Coast Guard veteran. He is survived by four children, Edward J. Corbett and his wife Priscilla; Randall J. Corbett and his wife Jeanne; David M. Corbett and his wife Ellen; and Charlotte L. Thompson and her husband Jack; 10 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. Antonia "Etta" (Caranci) Iannuccilli, 89 of East Greenwich, passed away on Saturday, May 4, surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late Alexander "Sonny" Iannuccilli. Etta worked for 23 years for Mine Safety Appliances Company in North Providence. She was always an active and fun-loving person. Born in North Providence, she was the eldest daughter of the late Paul and Filomena Caranci. Born in Providence, he was the son of Darlene A. (Wickham) Walsh and Richard D. Walsh of East Greenwich. A graduate of Toll Gate High School in Warwick, class of 1996, he attended Northeastern University and Rhode Island College. Norma C. (Pantalone) Walsh, of Warwick, passed away on May 5. Born in Providence, she was the daughter of Vincent and Antonnetta Pantalone (Caione). Norma graduated from Mount Pleasant High School in 1950 and received a degree in fashion merchandising from Johnson & Wales University. She worked with her father, sisters, and cousins at Vincent’s Specialty Store on Atwells Avenue in Providence before opening her own store, Norma & Sons, on Federal Hill. Norma was secretary of the Federal Hill Businessmen’s Association in the 1970s and was proud of her contributions to the Hill’s renaissance during that time, which included the St. Joseph’s Day parade. Vincent Viola, 69, passed away May 3 at Rhode Island Hospital. Born in Providence, a son of the late Albert and Michelina (DeGregorio) Viola. Mr. Viola was the owner/operator of Graphic Images, Inc., in East Greenwich. He was a graduate of Cornell University. He was a U.S. Army veteran and a member of the Exeter Country Club. He was the father of David Viola and Michael Viola. Brother of David Viola, Mary Viola and the late Albert Viola. His funeral is Tuesday, May 7, at 9 a.m. from Woodlawn Funeral Home, 600 Pontiac Ave., Cranston, followed by Committal Prayers at 10 a.m. in St. Ann's Cemetery Chapel. Barbara S. (Spencer) Nicholson, 88, passed away May 1. She was the wife of the late Charles R. Nicholson. Born in East Greenwich, she was the daughter of the late James B. and Helen L. (Stoddard) Spencer. At the time of her death, Mrs. Nicholson was the longest standing member of the First Baptist Church of East Greenwich, a member of its choir and had served on many of its boards.
