Watson’s lawyer returned to court Thursday with information on his whereabouts.
State Rep. Bob Watson (R-Dist. 30) is in a rehabilitation center in Florida, his lawyer Timothy Williamson told the court Thursday. Judge Mary McCaffrey had ordered Williamson to return to court on Thursday after he’d been unable to tell the court on the original court date Feb. 2 where his client was, other than that Watson was “out of state” in treatment. On that date, Judge McCaffrey had called Williamson’s lack of knowledge about his client’s whereabouts “a bit unusual.” Watson was arrested on Jan. 21 in South Kingstown and charged with possessing marijuana after he drove into a parking lot on Tower Hill Road, nearly hitting a snow plow operator. State Rep. Bob Watson was arrested Saturday for marijuana possession, his second arrest in nine months.

"I told him he wasn't going anywhere. My brother was with me." That's when Timpson decided to call the police. Watson had told …

Houghtaling said that’s a bit misleading. “For the most part, alcohol and drugs are 50-50,” he said of their use among kids. “Take away 27 [from the 41 total], it’s down to 14. That one incident skewed the statistics.” Houghtaling said that marijuana continues to be popular, largely because it’s more tolerated on a societal level. “There are parents that give their tacit approval …

Due process is a requirement that the state respect a defandant's rights. Issues of criminality are in the state's domain...questions of suitability and leadership are up to the people being represented, and appearances _are_ important (unlike courts of law). Given that his suitability for office and ability to lead are both impaired by these substance-abuse issues, I believe he should have …   more ›
