The New Leaders Project, which espouses a pro-jobs, pro-growth agenda, opts for Mark Schwager over GOP candidate Anthony Giarrusso.
Mark Schwager, the Democratic candidate for state House District 30, has won the endorsement of the New Leaders Project, a Rhode Island group that espouses what it calls a "pro-growth" agenda. "New Leaders is an effort to find pro-jobs, pro-growth candidates from all parties who can actually win and have leadership qualities," said a spokesman for the group who asked not to be identified. "Mark has shown he’s a proven vote getter.... He has a temperment and an ability to get things done." "Their economic issues align pretty closely with mine," said Schwager, who served two terms on the EG Town Council before running for the Senate District 33 seat against Dawson Hodgson, who won that race. In addition, one Democrat and one independent filed to run for the seat long held by the retiring Bob Watson.
Three Republicans – two newcomers and one former candidate – have filed to run for the House Dist. 30 seat being relinquished by Bob Watson, which sets up the need for a primary in that race on Sept. 11. Emil (Dean) Fachon, Antonio (Anthony) Giarrusso, and Bob Bolton all submitted papers this week to run for District 30. “I’m very involved in the grassroots Tea Party movement,” Fachon said, who filed Wednesday. This is his first run for office. He is concerned about rising taxes and has written op/ed pieces for Providence Business News and the Warwick Beacon. Fachon, 54, grew up in East Greenwich and lives on Pricewood Drive. He is a technical writer, is married and has two children. “This is the seat I was always interested in,” he said…

The Republican runs a jewelry company in Johnston.
Anthony Giarrusso says he's running for the state representative Dist. 30 seat opening up because of the retiring Bob Watson for one main reason. "The number one reason is it breaks my heart that everybody that's got a college-age kid tells them, 'Get your diploma and get out of this state,'" he said Monday after turning in his Declaration of Candidacy papers. Giarrusso, 50, lives on Lenihan Lane, is married to Janet, and has four children. His jewelry manufacturing company in Johnston employs 100, he said. He is running as a Republican, which means there will be a primary. Fellow Republican Bob Bolton has also submitted papers to run. This will be Giarrusso's first foray into politics. He's served on the board of the East Greenwich …

Anthony Giarrusso is exactly the kind of candidate this so called New Leaders Project should be actively recruiting. He actually understands how to bring jobs to the economy of Rhode Island and has been doing it for a long time. If you are looking for a pro growth candidate, why not ask an expert who knows first hand what kind of climate would bring business to Rhode Island (you know, like, um …   more ›
