Police Log: Two Assaults On Main Street

Information about the following incidents was supplied by the East Greenwich Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Monday, Dec. 31 10:04 a.m. – A town employee reported someone had knocked down a port-a-john beside the playground at Academy Field. In addition, it appeared a truck had driven onto the snow-covered field. Tuesday, Jan. 1 1:40 a.m. – Two men were assaulted on Main Street, one badly beaten in the head, following arguments with an unknown suspect. Police were called to Centro Martini on Main Street for a report of a fight. A small crowd had gathered up the street a bit and police found a man lying face down in a driveway, bleeding from the head. The man, from Warwick, had multiple cuts on his face and swelling on the left side of his face. One witness said the injured man had been yelling at the suspect, who then turned to confront him. Arrests: Suspended Licenses & Strong Kicks

Monday, Jan. 23 10:43 a.m. — Police arrested Matthew Webster, 29, of Lafayette Drive for driving with a suspended license after police noticed the car he was driving on Main Street had no inspection sticker and out-of-date registration stickers. Police also found that his license plates were for a truck, not a passenger vehicle. Webster did not have a license and routine checks turned up two outstanding bench warrants for driving with a suspended license. Webster’s car was towed and the plates seized. He was processed at the station, issued a district court summons and citations and released. Thursday, Jan. 26 9:05 p.m. — Police arrested Gregory Koval, 27, of Carnation Street in Pawtucket, on two counts of disorderly conduct and domestic …

Police Searching for Suspect In Attempted Robbery In NK

North Kingstown police are investigating an attempted robbery at Bank of America Tuesday night.

A suspect in an attempted robbery at Bank of America at 6725 Post Rd. in North Kingstown is still at large, according to police. An unknown suspect attempted to rob a woman as she made a deposit at the bank's drive-thru at around 8:14 p.m. Tuesday, according to Lt. Paul Barry of the North Kingstown Police Department. The suspect allegedly threatened the woman and physically assaulted her. Police are still determining whether the suspect took any items from the victim. As of 10:15 p.m. Tuesday, police were interviewing witnesses at the scene. Police were unable to give a description of the alleged robber. "A Lot Of Weed" And Bad Restaurant Manners

Monday, Aug. 15 7:52 p.m. - Police arrested a River Farm Drive man, 19, on possession of marijuana and alcohol after he and another man were stopped by police in the area of Shoreside Apartments. Police had received a report of a possible drug transaction, according to the report. They searched the man and found a bag of what turned out to be marijuana in a shirt pocket. When police asked him what was in the backpack, he told them, "a lot of weed." Police found 10 small bags of marijuana in the pack, for a total of 32 grams. He had a bottle of wine as well. Assaulted Officer Back On The Job

Officer Humberto Montalban was injured Saturday evening after stopping a driver who’s car registration had expired.

East Greenwich police officer Humberto Montalban was bit in the finger, kicked in the groin and suffered a bump to his head after John Konrad, 55, of Pawtucket, apparently became enraged when his car was about to be towed because his car registration was expired. Montalban had noticed the expired registration sticker while patrolling on Division Street last Saturday just after 8pm, according to Sergeant Paul Nahrgang on Sunday. Montalban had signaled to the driver of the Audi to stop, then proceeded to follow the Audi onto Route 95 after it failed to pull over. The Audi did pull over on 95 in Warwick and Montalban called for a tow truck when it became evident that Konrad’s registration was indeed expired. Konrad was hearing impaired, …

Police Officer Assaulted During Traffic Stop Saturday

A few hours later, police responded to a serious car accident on Middle Road.

Police had a busy Saturday night. First an officer was assaulted during a traffic stop between 8 and 8:30pm, then just after 1am, police responded to a serious car accident on Middle Road at Tillinghast Road. According to police, the driver of the car had to be extracted using a rescue tool and was taken to Rhode Island Hospital. The driver was Mark Boyajian, 32, an East Greenwich resident. Speed appears to be a factor, police said. His condition was not available Sunday evening. WPRI has video footage of the overturned vehicle. According to Sergeant Paul Nahrgang, the assault on the officer took place after a driver was pulled over for what Nahrgang said was a “basic traffic stop.” He refused to release the names of either the officer or …
