Avengers Outstrip Skippers, 34-20; Still Undefeated

EG football team continues winning season with 34-20 win over North Kingstown Friday night.

With four games left in the regular season, the EGHS Avenger football team remains undefeated after their victory Friday night against the North Kingstown Skippers. Cheered on by a large crowd of EG fans, the EGHS football team improved its record to 4:0 within the division and 6:0 overall.  Just over a minute into the game, EG’s Andrew Miner through an interception, which was run in for a touchdown by NK’s Alex Burke. It took to near the end of the first quarter for the Avengers to come back with a successful touchdown run by Alex Cleary to tie the game at 6-6. Momentum continued with the Skippers in the second quarter, with touchdowns scored by Nick Chevalier and Alex Burke, as well as a successful two-point conversion. With just over …

EG Beats Moses Brown, 39-21; Remains Undefeated

By winning against the previously undefeated Quakers, the Avengers remain tied with Middletown in first place.

The Avenger Football team advanced their winning season with another win, cheered on by a large contingent of EG fans filling the stands and sidelines at Moses Brown’s Campanella Field. EG and Middletown remain tied in first place of Division III. EG came on strong in the first quarter with touchdowns by Palmer and Crawford, as well as an extra point kick by Cleary. Moses Brown responded with one touchdown and extra point resulting in a 13-7 EG lead at the end of the first quarter. Just under a minute into the second quarter, Dan Josloff recovered a Quaker fumble, running it in for a touchdown. Josloff left the game after being called on a dead ball foul related to that play, his second personal foul of the game. The quarter continued …

RIHS Football Poll – Week 4

La Salle stays at No. 1, while East Greenwich moves up one spot, to 14.

La Salle is still ranked No. 1 in the state, but Hendricken is gaining, and Cranston East also remains in the hunt for the top ranking in the fourth week of the Rhode Island High School Football Media Poll. The top four of the poll remain unchanged, as La Salle, Hendricken, Cranston East and Portsmouth all won their games. The Johnston Panthers round out the top five, thanks to a 48-0 drubbing of Toll Gate. Shea (No. 15) and Coventry (No. 20) are new to the poll this week. Shea had an impressive win against No. 12 West Warwick, and Coventry beat Warwick Vets 40-8. East Greenwich continued its winning ways last weekend, with its own 40-0 win over Lincoln. The Avengers face Moses Brown (ranked 16 this week) Saturday at 2:30 in Providence. …

EG Blanks Lincoln, 40-0, In Homecoming Game

The Avengers are tied for first place in Division 3.

Saturday’s victory over the Lincoln Lions keeps the Avenger football team at the top spot in Division III, tied with Middletown at 3-0 division, 4-0 overall. Going into the game, the team’s goal was to shutout Lincoln, according to quarterback Andrew Miner. “This was a great win all around and we played great, consistent football,” he said.  The first quarter resulted in two touchdowns, one by Alex Cleary coupled with a quarterback sneak from Andrew Miner. Alex Cleary made one of the extra point kicks resulting in a 13-0 lead going into the second quarter. Defense continued strong, holding back the Lions, while offense put another 7 points on the board with a second quarterback sneak followed by an extra point by Cleary, giving EG a 20-0…

RIHS Football Poll – Week 3

RIHS Football Media Poll – East Greenwich moves up five spots, after its win last Saturday over Tiverton.

La Salle remains at No. 1 in the latest Rhode Island High School Football Media Poll, after taking care of Tolman, 42-20. The three teams after La Salle – Hendricken, Cranston East and Portsmouth – also remain the same. Westerly and Johnston moved up to No. 5 and No. 6, respectively, after Barrington lost 41-18 to East. East Greenwich improves to 15, up from 20, after its second league win, this time over Tiverton, 28-6. The rest of the poll: Dropped from poll: Shea (17). Also receiving votes: Smithfield 27, Coventry 9, North Kingstown 8, Shea 6, North Smithfield 2, Tiverton 2, Mount Pleasant 1. Avengers Trip Up Tiverton Tigers

Varsity Football Team Continues Undefeated This Season

What a difference a year makes. Last year the Avengers fell to the Tiverton Tigers in a tough 41 to 14 loss. Now, in its third game of the season, the EGHS varsity football team walked away with a 28 to 6 win. The Avengers currently stand with a 2-0 division record and an overall 3-0 record.  Under the watchful eye of a small but vocal fan base, the Avengers did not put up any points until the second quarter when Carney Crawford ran in the first touchdown of the game with Alex Cleary making the extra point kick. The Avengers came on strong in the third quarter with Cleary returning a Tiger fumble for a touchdown, followed by a long run for a second touchdown by Cleary. Cleary made both extra point kicks. EGHS Football Team Excels During First Home Game of Season

Avengers come on strong against Ponaganset Chiefs with a 34-13 win

Supported by a large contingent of hometown fans, the EGHS varsity football team advanced its season record to 2-0 after Friday night’s win against the Ponaganset Chiefs. EG’s offense came on strong in the first half with two touchdowns by Carney Crawford and additional touchdowns by Pete Hunzicker and Kyle Palmer. Alex Cleary made three out of four conversion kicks, resulting in a score at the half of 34 EG, 0 Ponaganset. The second half proved somewhat more fruitful for the Chiefs with touchdowns by Scott Peterson and Matt Humphrey. The Avengers answered with an additional touchdown from Alex Cleary. Avenger Football Team Kicks Off Regular Season

Varsity shows strong start last week with 13-6 win against North Kingstown; Junior Varsity shut out by Westerly.

Somehow this story failed to get posted on the site last week./em Friday night lights began this past week with the Varsity Football Team battling rival North Kingstown in the annual Injury Fund Tournament held at Chariho.  With the watchful eye of many EG fans in the stands, the team held strong against NK resulting in a 13:8 win. The Varsity team will take on Exeter/West Greenwich this Saturday (Sept. 8) at 2 p.m. at EWG.   The Junior Varsity team didn’t fare as well this week, when they started their season in an away game on Saturday against the Westerly Bulldogs. The team struggled against Westerly’s strong offense and defense. The result was a 42 to zero shutout. The JV Avengers…
