EGHS Boys Soccer Take Season Opener Against Prout, 1-0

Even without the 12 varsity players who graduated in June, the young Avenger boys soccer team did better than hold up against Prout Thursday night at Carcieri Field - they beat them, 1-0. “Good start, boys,” said Coach Pat McGuirl after the game, as the boys picked up their things and started to head for the locker room. In reviewing the game, McGuirl said that the biggest change this year is that the defenders are all new starters - one freshman, two sophomores and a junior - but they did all right on Thursday. Goalie and senior Oscar Goodwin agreed. “There are some big kids on the other team and they held their own, which was really good,” Goodwin said of the defense.
