Five Things: Town-School Budget Meeting

School Committee/Town Council meeting: A “pre-budget” discussion is on the agenda … in other words, the budget discussions for Fiscal Year 2014 (which starts July 1) begin! Weather: It’ll be in the 30s today but is supposed to be in the 40s during the day for the rest of the week. Goodbye snow. Outdoor Ice Skating: The town’s two rinks are open for skating – the plus from all the recent cold weather. One rink, pictured here, is downtown, at the basketball courts at the bottom of Eldredge Field. The other is at Shovlin Park, off Middle Road. You must bring your own skates and there’s no zamboni, but it’s free and glorious to be able to skate outdoors! With the newly warmer temperatures, it’s better to skate early or late in the day. …

Five things you need to know about East Greenwich today, April 30.

Town Council/School Committee budget meeting: The two panels meet tonight at Swift Community Center to talk turkey about the budget. The Council has asked the School Committee to cut $400,000 from it’s budget. Expect to hear a defense from the school side when the meeting convenes tonight at 7 p.m. EGHS Home Track Meet: For the first time in decades (!), East Greenwich High School is hosting a track meet this afternoon, with the Avengers facing teams from Coventry and Westerly at 3:30 p.m. Go (fast!) Avengers!
