Police Log

Police Log: Problems At CVS, Traffic On Tamarack

Information about the following incidents was supplied by the East Greenwich Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Tuesday, Jan. 7 7:45 a.m. – Someone notified police that a man was video-taping cars as they let students off on Tamarack Drive near the access road connecting Tamarack to East Greenwich High School. Police met with the man, who lives on Tamarack Drive. He told police he was taping the cars – not the students – because of traffic concerns in the area, in particular, middle school students who have to walk through the traffic en route to the bus stop in the morning. The man said he counted 110 cars dropping off students this morning. Wednesday, Jan. 8 5:03 p.m. – An East Greenwich resident reported having been threatened while pulling out of a parking space at the CVS on South County Trail. She told police a man driving a blue car pulled …

Powdered baby formula has been used for years to cut cocaine, heroin, and I think, meth-amphetamines. Drug pushers love it because it's safe and has the right consistency to mix with the other drugs.   more ›

Local Pharmacies Get Rush For Flu Shot

As of right now, your best bet EG is the Walgreens at 1000 Division Street.

I got the last flu shot at CVS Pharmacy on Main Street. The store won't be getting any more until Monday at the earliest, they said, and maybe not even then. According to pharmacist Sherry Manferdini, the store didn't have any until a surprise shipment of 30 doses came in just after noon on Friday. By 5:30, when I arrived, they were down to the one.  "Last year, we went through 1,300 at this store," Manferdini said. "This year already, we've gone through 2,000. They never anticipated such an increase year to year." At the CVS at 1285 South County Trail, they have flu shots, but only for people 65 and older. They were uncertain when they would be getting more to use on the general population. Walgreens at 1000 Division St. does have flu …

Police Arrest Pair After CVS Break-In

Two Providence men were charged with breaking and entering after allegedly stealing cigarettes from the pharmacy on New London Turnpike overnight.

Police arrested two Providence men charged with breaking into the CVS on New London Turnpike overnight, allegedly stealing cigarettes. Somsack Sithong, 30, of 25 Lavaugn St., Providence, and Darryl Henries, 42, of 270 Vermont Ave., Providence, are charged with breaking and entering and conspiracy after allegedly stealing packs of cigarettes from the Coventry pharmacy. An alarm alerted Coventry police to the CVS at 2250 New London Turnpike at about 3:30 this morning. The north side of street there is part of East Greenwich, but Coventry police are first responders there. While patrol units were responding, a witness near the scene said two men had just entered the front of the store after smashing the window, then drove away in a grey …

Blue Cross Announces Flu Shot Sites

BC/BS will be offering shots at all three CVS pharmacies in East Greenwich

Three locations in East Greenwich — CVS pharmacies on Main Street, South County Trail and New London Turnpike — are among 125 sites where members of Blue Cross/Blue Shield can go for flu shots, the health insurer announced last week. In a press release, BC/BS of Rhode Island stated that its goal is to improve on the roughly 50 percent flu shot rate from 2010. According to the press release, BC/BC of Rhode Island members age nine and older can now get a flu shot right at a participating pharmacy in Rhode Island. They just need to show their BC/BS insurance card and they will get their flu shot at no cost. "The pharmacy will handle submitting the medical claim,” said Blue Cross Senior V.P. and Chief Medical Officer Gus Manocchia in the …

East Greenwich Commons Sold to Mass. Investment Group

Linear Retail Properties is the new owner of what's more commonly known as the CVS plaza.

Linear Retail Properties of Burlington, Mass., has acquired East Greenwich Commons, the 41,000 square foot shopping center on Main Street anchored by CVS Pharmacy. The purchase price was $8 million dollars. The owner had been Greenwich Main, LLC, owned by James Karam of Tiverton, and the property had been assessed at $6.4 million, according to the tax assessor's office. For years the site was known as Almac’s plaza, even after the grocery store closed and portions of the property fell into disrepair. The upgrade came while it was owned by Karam. The shopping center building was developed in the late 1950’s and was occupied by Woollworth’s and Almac’s for many years. It was rehabbed in 2001, with CVS becoming the anchor store, taking over …

New CVS Approved, Slated For South County Trail

New CVS approved, slated for South County Trail.

The Planning Board voted unanimously Wednesday night to approve a plan by Link Commercial Properties to build a new CVS store at 1285 South County Trail, just south of Division Street, pending DOT approval. There will be a new traffic light to help ease additional traffic concerns, located at the intersection of Fairgrounds Way and South County Trail. The developer will pay the costs associated with the new intersection. It will also serve the South County Trail entrance to the Dave's plaza at 1000 Division Street. The Department of Transportation is expected to rule on the developer's traffic plan within the next two weeks, according to Link's lawyer, Peter Nolan. It's been a long time coming for Link principal Frank Paolino, who said in…
