Town meetings today: The new Budget Advisory Committee for the Town of East Greenwich meets this morning at 8 a.m. at Town Hall. The East Greenwich Free Library Board of Trustees meets at 4 p.m. at the library. Substance abuse may be a complicated problem, but at a presentation Monday night at the Police Department’s Community Room, those in attendance had one answer: when it comes our children, the community needs to give them more ways to succeed so they won’t feel the need to turn to drugs or alcohol. Town substance abuse coordinator Bob Houghtaling led the evening, which was titled “Substance Abuse and Spirituality.” The talk was sponsored by the Substance Abuse Task Force and Citizens Who Care (CWC). Many in the audience knew Houghtaling by name and greeted him with a heartfelt “Good evening!” at the beginning of the presentation. Even Houghtaling’s parents were in attendance, solidifying the small town, friendly vibe of the presentation. …
