EG Teen Reunited With Cat Through Volunteer Work At Shelter

Maddie Eustis writes our Adopt a Pet column and volunteers regularly at the EG Animal Protection League. Last week, the cat she and her family thought had died, turned up at the shelter.

Maddie Eustis is a devoted animal lover. At 16, she's been the driving force behind the Adopt a Pet column that runs most Saturdays on the site and she volunteers regularly at the EG Animal Protection League. After her family's 19-year-old cat, Sydney, disappeared recently and the family decided it had wandered off to die someplace, Maddie was overjoyed to find it at the shelter on her volunteer day. A story about Maddie and Sydney's reunification written by Kim Kalunian appeared in RhodyBeat, an online offshoot of the Warwick Beacon, Cranston Herald, and Johnston Sunrise. The cat was missing for 11 days when Maddie reported to work at the EG Animal Protection League shelter. As she was being introduced to the new animals who'd come in …

Pet of the Week: Chloe

This Persian cat loves to be petted.

This week's pet of the week is our beautiful Chloe. Chloe is a gorgeous Persian (a beautiful breed) who is 10 years old. She has only one eye – which in my opinion makes her even more beautiful. Chloe has the most unique long fur, black and brown color, a rare combo! Chloe is also missing some of her teeth and is declawed. However, petting Chloe, you would think she was a kitten. She will nudge you if you stop petting her and she loves to roll on her back for a belly rub. This middle-aged girl really needs a home and people who love and care about her. She gets so excited when we let her out of her cage – imagine how happy she will be if you brought her home! This little beauty has so much love to give, please consider come seeing her and…

Weekly spotlight of a animal looking for a new home.

This week we are featuring a cat named Harvest. She is a spayed female that just had her third birthday. She has been at the EGAPL for almost a year and is more then ready to find a home. Ideally she would like to be an only child but can get along with others as long as they are mellow like her. she is very sweet and loves to be pet and to play. "She has plumped up but will slim down once she finds a home," said Nancy Dyer, who looks after the cats.   If you are interested in adopting Harvest or any other of the animals available through the EGAPL, or perhaps you'd like to volunteer, contact Nancy Dyer at 732-8223 or egapl@care2.com.  The EGAPL is located in the Greenwich Bay Animal Hospital, 5732 Post Road in East Greenwich.

Adopt-an-Animal Spotlight

Weekly spotlight of a animal looking for a new home.

Say hello to Raven. She currently is cared for by the East Greenwich Animal Protection League but is looking for a special family to look after her. There is nothing unlucky about this 13-year-old black cat. She has big beautiful yellow eyes and “she has a lot of spunk,” said Nancy Dyer, who looks after the cats at the EGAPL. Raven plays well with others and loves to explore. She is always looking to be pet or brushed and loves to purr. If you are interested in adopting Raven or any other of the animals available through the EGAPL, or perhaps you'd like to volunteer, contact Nancy Dyer at 732-8223 or egapl@care2.com. The EGAPL is located in the Greenwich Bay Animal Hospital, 5732 Post Rd., in East Greenwich.

Thanks so much, Dan! Wonderful pictures of beautiful Raven. The East Greenwich Animal Protection League has so many wonderful, grown cats that would love to curl up in a home and keep people company. Like Paulette said, everyone loves a kitten (they are small and adorable) but cats provide just as much love and they won't climb your curtains. Raven is just one of the many wonderful cats that …   more ›

Adopt-an-Animal Spotlight

Weekly spotlight of a animal looking for a new home.

This solid black pit bull is named Luna. She is a 10-month-old spayed female being looked after at the East Greenwich Animal Protection League but is looking for a loving home.  Luna is a pit bull but don't let that fool you, she is full of love and has almost completed Canine Good Citizen training. Her file reads, "Very sweet girl, LOVES car rides and to give you lots of kisses." She can be nervous around new people but it doesn't take long for her to warm to them according to EGAPL's Capri Lanning-Cafaro.  If you are interested in adopting Luna or any other of the animals available through the EGAPL, or perhaps you'd like to volunteer, contact Tammy at 241-4541 or egapl@care2.com.  The EGAPL is located in the Greenwich Bay Animal …

I have also walked Luna as a new volunteer & recently took her in my car to Goddard Park. She is a wonderful "kiss-bull" and just an awesome dog - intelligent, obedient, lovey, and overall a very chill disposition. Please stop by EGAPL & meet her - she will make a great addition to your family!   more ›

Weekly spotlight of a animal looking for a new home.

Dexter is a male neutered Doberman Pinscher mix. After he was rescued, Dexter was treated for a broken leg and is staying at Greenwich Bay Animal Hospital courtesy of the East Greenwich Animal Protection League. Dexter still has a lot of puppy left in him and is looking for a new family that can keep up with him.  "Dexter is a very quick learner" said Capri Lanning-Cafaro. "I trained him to sit in one afternoon." She admits he can be a little wacky and rambuctous but said it's just because he get so excited when people want to play, especially with a tenis ball. Dexter gets along with eveyone around the EGAPL, even the cats. If you are interested in adopting Dexter or any other of the animals available through the EGAPL, or perhaps you'd …

Thank you so much, Dan! It is true that Murphy is one of my favorites, although I love all the animals we have - they have such distinct personalities (such as Bobby in the photo above, he just wanted to hug). We have a lot of cats/kittens and would love to have more active volunteers with the organization. If anyone is interested in volunteering please feel free to send me an e-mail and I will …   more ›
