Community Dinner: Christ Community Kitchen takes place tonight at St. Luke's Church. It's a community meal open to anyone interested in good food and fellowship. No religious affiliation is required. The meal is free, donations are accepted. 5 p.m. East Greenwich Historic Preservation Society meeting: At tonight’s meeting, two significant anniversaries will be celebrated – the town's 335th birthday and the 45th anniversary of the Preservation Society's founding in 1966. Long-term residents will share their memories of what East Greenwich was like in the 1950s and 1960s. Town Council/School Committee budget meeting: The two panels meet tonight at Swift Community Center to talk turkey about the budget. The Council has asked the School Committee to cut $400,000 from it’s budget. Expect to hear a defense from the school side when the meeting convenes tonight at 7 p.m. EGHS Home Track Meet: For the first time in decades (!), East Greenwich High School is hosting a track meet this afternoon, with the Avengers facing teams from Coventry and Westerly at 3:30 p.m. Go (fast!) Christmas dinner … early: Christ Community Kitchen will be serving up Christmas dinner a few days early tonight, starting at 5 p.m. at St. Luke’s. All are welcome; it’s free, but donations are accepted. Children’s crafts at the library: Looking for an activity to fill the hours between now and Dec. 25? Children of all ages are invited to stop by the Children's Room Drop-In Craft Table any time during regular East Greenwich Free Library hours to celebrate the season with a variety of holiday craft activities throughout the month. Community Reaches Out To Those In Need In Time For Holidays

Among the offerings is a free meal tonight at Christ Community Kitchen, a monthly meal program at St. Luke's.

This time of year, many people are overwhelmed just thinking about how to serve or buy for their own families but some in town are focusing their efforts outward - to the residents who are in need. The town’s Department of Human Services served a big holiday dinner for seniors last Thursday at the Swift Community Center and is now taking sign ups for the Christmas meal. That deadline is Dec. 7 and the dinner is on Dec. 15. No sign up is needed at the St. Luke's Church on Pierce Street where Christ’s Community Kitchen will be open at 5 p.m. tonight. On the menu will be a Thanksgiving-themed Turkey Tetrazzini. All are welcome to enjoy a meal in a community setting. There is a free-will offering asked for those who can give. Next month, the …

Town Council meeting: On tonight’s agenda is continued discussion of providing trash collection to all the private condominium complexes in town and a resolution on state pension reform. The meeting starts at 7 p.m. in Council Chambers at Town Hall. (The agenda is attached at right.) EG Farmers Market: Okay, this is it, the last EG market of the season. Let’s make it a good one. Pick up some pumpkins, fresh eggs, naturally raised chicken or beef, oysters, locally roasted coffee and, perhaps, a loaf of fresh baked bread or two.
