Police Log: Loud Music & Barking Dogs

Friday, May 10 2:30 p.m. – Police assisted EG Fire at a fire at a house on Hemlock Drive. No one was home at the time and there were no pets. A neighbor called in the fire. The fire started in the attic. The house suffered extensive smoke and water damage. 5 p.m. – An East Providence man turned in a money clip with $225 in cash, a driver’s license and several credit cards. Police contacted the owner, a Warwick man, who came to the station to pick it up. 7:46 p.m. – An employee at a Cedar Avenue recovery residence told police a man she had worked with at another facility had made inappropriate romantic gestures toward her at the Cedar Avenue site on several occasions so she wanted a no-trespass order on the former patient. Police Log: Hen Lays Egg On The Lam

Information about the following incidents was supplied by the East Greenwich Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Monday, May 6 11:36 a.m. – A person at New England Tech reported a hen in the parking lot. He said he saw a car pull into the parking lot, the trunk pop open and the hen jump out. He was not able to get the license plate number, according to the report. The animal control officer took possession of the hen, using a cat carrier to transport it to the police station. Before the officer had a chance to take the hen to North Kingstown Animal Hospital, she laid an egg. There was nothing in the report to indicate who took possession of the egg. Tuesday, May 7 12:18 p.m. – A Marlborough Street resident called police to report a domestic dispute, but when police tried to check out the situation, the woman at the residence refused to let them in …

Police Log: Wig-Wearing Fake Prescription Passer

Thursday, May 2 2:32 p.m. – The manager of Ruby Tuesday’s on Division Street told police two customers sitting at the bar rang up a bill of $91.75 and left without paying. The manager said this was the third  time the men had done this. She said she wanted to press charges and have no trespass orders be issued if police are able to find the men. Friday, May 3 1:18 a.m. – A customer at Norman’s Tap on Main Street called police because he said he’d been assaulted. When police talked to the bartender and others, however, a different picture emerged, in which the man who called was drunk and provoked a verbal argument. Witnesses said the man was not struck, but was pushed. The owner of the bar said he wanted a no-trespass order for the man. …

Friday, April 26 12:46 p.m. – A Carrs Pond Road resident showed police a wooded area of his property where trash had been dumped, including two piles of brush, a white rattan bench, pieces of lumber and plastic flower pots. Police suggested he hang a chain between trees to block vehicles and post no-trespassing signs. 1:31 p.m. – The chef at Sienna restaurant told police someone took four cast-iron planters that had been moved behind the building to be cleaned on Thursday. He said he’d left at 11 a.m. Thursday to run some errands and when he returned at 2 p.m., the planters were gone. 5:49 a.m. – Police arrested Thomas W. Monday, April 22 12:11 p.m. – An East Greenwich woman told police she had been assaulted by her boyfriend, with whom she lives, in the early morning hours. She said she hadn’t contacted police right away out of fear. Police referred the woman to the domestic violence advocate and issued a warrant for the boyfriend. 3:30 p.m. – Police arrested Ronald J. Fournier, 32, of Sylvan Drive, on a warrant for charges of domestic assault and disorderly conduct at his home. He was taken into custody, processed at the station, arraigned and released with a District Court summons. 9:02 p.m. – Following a report, police found a Star of David spray painted in blue on top of a patch of white paint on a shed in the southeast corner of East Greenwich High …

Police Log: Flying Microwave, Barking Dog, Kicking Passenger

  Thursday, April 18 5:05 p.m. – Police arrested Jeffrey Laychak, 27, of Laurel Ridge Lane in North Kingstown, for driving with a suspended license after he was pulled over on Main Street because of an expired inspection sticker. Routine checks turned up the license violation as well as car registration suspension. Police had the car towed from the scene and released Laychak with a court summons. Friday, April 19 12:28 a.m. – Police arrested Michelle Weinberg, 45, of Frenchtown Road, for driving while in intoxicated and refusing to take a chemical breath test, after she was pulled over because she’d almost hit a police car on Division Street. Police Log: More Stolen Oil & Kids Soliciting Booze

Monday, April 15 1:05 p.m. – A man from Newport Biodiesel told police said he’d heard a report from Dave’s Market employees about two suspicious men removing oil from the Newport Diesel collection bin behind the market. The men said they had permission, but after they’d driven off in a van, employees found the bin’s lock had been cut and approximately 40 to 50 gallons of oil missing, valued at $150. The description of the van given by the Dave’s employees matched that of the van from a similar incident in West Warwick. The Dave’s employees gave police the license plate number, which matched the other vehicle. Monday, April 8 3:39 p.m. – Police came upon a man passed out in his car in the parking lot at Frenchtown Park. The man, from East Greenwich, appeared to be drunk. EG Rescue was called and the man was taken to Kent Hospital. 7:42 p.m. – Police arrested Michael Rocchio, 26, of Old Farm Road, on a bench warrant after he was seen in a driveway on Maplewood Drive. Police had heard earlier in the day about the warrant on Rocchio. After it was confirmed, police arrested Rocchio, who was taken into custody, processed at the station and held for arraignment. Thursday, April 11 12:20 p.m. – The office manager of Zilmet on Frenchtown Road contacted police to report fraud that took place after the company received an internet order for $23,807.50, …

Thursday, April 4 8:01 a.m. – A resident of Shoreside Apartments complained to police about his downstairs neighbor having loud conversations at 3 a.m. He told police he had spoken to Sgt. Carter before about hearing threatening talk from the neighbor. Police then talked to the man downstairs, who denied having late or loud conversations. Police said to be mindful of the volume of his conversations. 9:49 a.m. – An East Greenwich woman told police she was thinking of starting divorce proceedings against her husband because he had abused her for years. The last time he had done so was several months ago, she said. She’d never reported the abuse because she was embarrassed. Police gave her information about domestic violence and told her to …

There are responsible owners and there are the rest of dog owners. I have seen the "rest" without doggy bags doing their business in "our" yards, etc. I have also seen homeowners "clearing" their yards and throwing the business in town barrels! Is that responsible?? Monday, April 1 9:50 a.m. and 1 p.m. – Residents of Liberty and Somerset streets complained about trucks and parking issues related to the Alex and Ani distribution warehouse on Liberty Street. In the morning, police got a report of a tractor-trailer blocking the roadway. Police spoke with the manager, who said he would arrange to have smaller trucks make deliveries. At 1 p.m., a resident flagged down police to complain about cars parked on Somerset Street all day. There is no restriction posted limiting the length of time cars can be parked on the street, but after police got another call, this one about the parking and about decreased visibility at the corner, they spoke again with the manager.
