EG Police Help Catch Bank Robbery Suspect

East Greenwich Police teamed up with North Kingstown to catch the suspect Wednesday evening.

A man suspected of robbing the North Kingstown Bank Newport on Wednesday afternoon has been taken into custody following a joint effort from the North Kingstown and East Greenwich police departments. According to a press release, North Kingstown detectives were able to deduce that Thomas N. Shellman of 30 Lang Drive in North Kingstown was the person who carried out the robbery at Bank Newport. Shellman allegedly entered the bank around 2 p.m. Wednesday and handed the teller a note demanding money. The teller (who was older than 60 years old, according to reports) complied and Shellman allegedly fled the scene toward Ten Rod Road. Police were able to track down Shellman later that evening and found several bills on him that were traced …

State Police Arrest East Greenwich Hit & Run Suspect In Smithfield

The following information was provided by the RI State Police. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

  RI State Police arrested a Glocester woman in Smithfield early this morning, charging her with last night's hit and run striking two pedestrians in East Greenwich, sending them to the hospital.  Rescue workers arrived at 162 Main St., in front of the Greenwich Hotel just before midnight after a 911 call reporting a pedestrian hit by a car. Fire and rescue personnel found two victims at the scene — a 40-year-old woman with a lower leg injury, and a 49-year-old man, who was unconscious and appeared to have a serious head injury, according to EG Fire Chief Peter Henrikson. Pedestrians Struck in Hit-and-Run

A man and a woman are transported to area hospitals, one with potentially serious injuries.

Two pedestrians were struck in a hit-and-run accident on Main Street Tuesday night, one of whom was rushed to Rhode Island Hospital with what appeared to be a serious head injury. Rescue workers arrived at 162 Main St., in front of the Greenwich Hotel, just before midnight after a 911 call reporting a pedestrian hit by a car. The accident took place in Charlestown, but Adriana Wright, 42, was arrested for drunk driving on Route 4 in East Greenwich.

Wright, 42, of 242 Cossaduck Hill Road, North Stonington, Conn., faces Charlestown police felony charges of leaving the scene of an accident with serious injury resulting and reckless driving following a Fourth Division District Court hearing on Jan. 3. Appearing before District Court judge Madeline Quirk, Wright was released on $10,000 personal recognizance, with the condition that she not drive until the resolution of her case. Three-Car Accident on Route 2 Causes Backup

Two the cars involved were part of a funeral procession

Around 11:40 a.m. this Monday morning, three cars were involved in an accident while traveling south on South County Trail just past Middle Road. Although drivers appeared shaken, no one was taken by rescue from the scene. Two couples were following each other from a memorial service to the burial site when the first driver said a tractor-trailer suddenly pulled out in front of him causing everyone to slam on their brakes. Each car slammed into the next as the tractor trailer kept driving, the driver said. The woman from the third car from East Greenwich was shaken and upset. Monday, Aug. 8 1:35 p.m. - Two residents of Shippee Road told police that they had seen a shiny black Jeep with after-market chrome wheels drive down roads beside their properties as far as to the back yard. In one case, the driver reversed the car quickly and drove away after seeing the resident. In the second instance, the resident stopped the car. The two “teenage boys” in the car told him they were looking for a place to go off-roading. Monday, Aug. 8 1:20 p.m. - Police cited a Warwick man for driving with a suspended license and suspended car registration after police noticed the out-of-date registration sticker on the car as it was traveling north on Main Street near Division. Monday, Aug. 1 9:09 a.m. - A town employee notified police that someone had thrown an egg at one of the town's cars, a Crown Victoria, damaging the paint job, while it was parked at 111 Peirce Street over the weekend. Tuesday, Aug. 2 12:23 p.m. - A Middle Road resident asked police to contact her sister’s ex-mother-in-law and tell her not to call again after she called three times and the conversations became abusive. Police contacted the woman, who lives in Florida, and she said she would not call again. 3:55 p.m. - A Duke Street resident reported that her wallet had gone missing after she accidentally left it at the pay phone at East Greenwich Farms on Main Street.
