Your guide for life in East Greenwich today, Jan. 15.
Community Flu Shot Clinic: If you have not gotten a flu shot yet, there will be a Community Vaccination Clinic on Tuesday, Jan. 15, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Cole Middle School. Anyone 6 months or older can get the flu shot. In addition the pneumonia and Tdap vaccines will be available. (*According to the CDC, vaccine protection for pertussis, tetanus, and diphtheria fades with time, so all adults 19 and older who have not previously received a Tdap vaccine need a booster shot. Experts recommend adults receive a tetanus and diphtheria booster [called Td] every 10 years and substitute a Tdap vaccine for one of the boosters. The dose of Tdap can be given earlier than the 10-year mark.) There is no out-of-pocket expense. If you have insurance, …

As of right now, your best bet EG is the Walgreens at 1000 Division Street.
I got the last flu shot at CVS Pharmacy on Main Street. The store won't be getting any more until Monday at the earliest, they said, and maybe not even then. According to pharmacist Sherry Manferdini, the store didn't have any until a surprise shipment of 30 doses came in just after noon on Friday. By 5:30, when I arrived, they were down to the one. "Last year, we went through 1,300 at this store," Manferdini said. "This year already, we've gone through 2,000. They never anticipated such an increase year to year." At the CVS at 1285 South County Trail, they have flu shots, but only for people 65 and older. They were uncertain when they would be getting more to use on the general population. Walgreens at 1000 Division St. does have flu …

From the office of Michael Fine, M.D., director of the Rhode Island Department of Health: As the flu remains widespread in Rhode Island and continues to send people to doctors’ offices and hospitals throughout the state, unvaccinated Rhode Islanders are urged to get flu shots to protect not only themselves, but also those around them — particularly elderly people and babies under the age of six months. “Flu vaccine helps you and the people in your life stay healthy,” said Fine. “Roughly 40 percent of the state has been vaccinated so far this flu season. For the hundreds of thousands of Rhode Islanders who still haven’t gotten flu shots, it’s not too late to protect yourself, your family members, neighbors, co-workers, and friends.” This…

Earlier this week, Michael Fine, director of the Rhode Island Department of Health (HEALTH), issued a Declaration of Widespread Flu Incidence Statewide. “Flu is here in Rhode Island, and all signs indicate that this flu season is expected to be more severe than those in recent past,” said Fine. This declaration triggers Rhode Island’s new regulations requiring all healthcare workers who have not been immunized against influenza to wear a surgical mask during all times of direct patient contact. Overall in the state, activity is considered high now, while it was considered low at this time in 2011, according to Google's Flu Trends. If you're considering getting a flu shot, here are some places in EG that offer the vaccine: Check here for …

Three locations in East Greenwich — CVS pharmacies on Main Street, South County Trail and New London Turnpike — are among 125 sites where members of Blue Cross/Blue Shield can go for flu shots, the health insurer announced last week. In a press release, BC/BS of Rhode Island stated that its goal is to improve on the roughly 50 percent flu shot rate from 2010. According to the press release, BC/BC of Rhode Island members age nine and older can now get a flu shot right at a participating pharmacy in Rhode Island. They just need to show their BC/BS insurance card and they will get their flu shot at no cost. "The pharmacy will handle submitting the medical claim,” said Blue Cross Senior V.P. and Chief Medical Officer Gus Manocchia in the …
