Commission Concerned About Impacts of Development on Frenchtown

The NK Planning Commission discussed the newest version of The Commons at Frenchtown Road.

The North Kingstown Planning Commission got a look at the latest changes to a large-scale development that could potentially bring a significant amount of tax dollars…and negatively impact nearby water sources. Developers Paul Milhailides of Frenchtown Partners LLC is proposing the 33-acre shopping center, called The Commons at Frenchtown Road, that would be nestled between Frenchtown Road and Route 403 – adjacent to the former Brown & Sharpe property. About 10 acres of the center would be in East Greenwich with the remainder in North Kingstown. The latest version of the plan calls for a 132,000 sq. ft. big box store, two three-story 48,000 sq. ft. office buildings, a 12,900 sq. ft. pharmacy, an 11,480 sq. ft. building, a 10,450 sq. ft. …

Big Box Store Proposed For Frenchtown Road Moved To NK Side

The site is right next to the former Brown and Sharpe complex, west of Stop and Shop. Paul Mihailides, developer of The Commons at Frenchtown Road, came before the Planning Board earlier this month in his second pre-application hearing on the project. The first hearing, in 2011, had a big box store situated on the East Greenwich portion. That was mainly because North Kingstown had an ordinance in place from the 1990s forbidding such giant retailers (following the arrival of Walmart on Ten Rod Road).  …

5 Things You Need To Know Today

Five Things: Planning Board, Navy Band Shoutout

Your guide for life in East Greenwich today, Sept. 5.

Trash pickup delayed one day this week: Because of the Labor Day holiday, trash pickup for the whole week is delayed one day. So, if you usually have trash pickup on Wednesdays, this week it will be Thursday. Friday pickups will happen on Saturday. Planning Board meeting: On the agenda is the East Greenwich portion of Frenchtown Commons, a development off Frenchtown between Post Road and the Route 4 overpass, just west of the former Browne and Sharpe facility. Most of the land for the development lies in North Kingstown, but proposed for the property in East Greenwich is a theater complex and a restaurant. On the NK side, a big box store is proposed along with several retail buildings. This is the second time the Planning Board will weigh…
