Alex And Ani Rents Main St. Warehouse

The fast-growing company already has a jewelry shop on Main Street.

A little bit more of the Alex and Ani gold dust is falling on East Greenwich, with the recent rental of warehouse space just off of Main Street. The company already owns a very busy jewelry store at 232 Main St. The warehouse building, at 461 Main St., is owned by Allen Gammons. Alex and Ani is renting out space at the rear of the building across from Crestar on Liberty Street. According to Alex and Ani CEO Giovanni Feroce, the space is being used as a distribution center for such companies as Bloomingdale's, Nordstrom, and The Paper Store.  "We're fortunate in that Allen Gammons had a facility we could use for this holiday season," Feroce said Tuesday. "It's a short-term plan but I could envision it as a long-term plan." Feroce said …

The parking lot is a huge concern for sight lines, butnot the only one on this corner. The hedge on the property opposite the lot is so high that you can't see the oncoming traffic coming down Liberty Street. You need to edge out slowly in order not to be hit by an oncoming car, and many cars speed down this road. I have seen so many near accidents on this corner and now with all the additional …   more ›

‘Scalloptown Yacht Club' Owners Say Purchase Will Protect Fishing Shanties

Mike Della Grotta and Allen Gammons buy the pale blue shanty next to the Lion Street right-of-way with the idea to hold line on change on Water Street.

When Sherry Finn approached Allen Gammons about listing the property at 48 Water St., he knew this was an important moment. The pale blue shanty on the lot was the first of the last shanties in East Greenwich. If it was taken down, how long would it be before the rest changed hands and disappeared, taking with them a big chunk of EG’s past? Gammons contacted longtime friend Mike Della Grotta, who owns EG-based Kendell Seafoods. Della Grotta immediately was interested, but he told Gammons they had to do it together. So, the Scalloptown Yacht Club partnership came into being, born of a shared love the EG waterfront and quahogging. Part of the deal with Finn, who is moving to Florida, included the ramp currently closed off with large …

Brookfield Residential Buys Prudential Real Estate

Business as usual for customers of Prudential Gammons Realty.

Brookfield Residential Property Services, an affiliate of Brookfield Asset Management, Inc., has purchased Prudential Real Estate and Relocation Services from Prudential Financial, Inc. Allen Gammons, who became Gammons Realty in 2000 and then bought the Prudential Real Estate franchise for the balance of the state in 2005, says the acquisition is a tripling of resources for his company and a very positive move. It does not affect his franchise agreement or those of other affiliates across North America. They will continue to use the Prudential brand. But Gammons says the acquisition opens additional resources and corporate relationships. “Corporate relationships we have now,” he said, “can be built on locally and then become national …

Theater Company Looks To Rent Warehouse On Main Street

Ocean State Theatre Company, of Theatre-By-The-Sea, wants a year-round home

If Ocean State Theatre Company has its way, there could be two theater organizations anchoring Main Street in the near future. OSTC wants to rent the warehouse building at 461 Main St., which sits next to Centreville Bank. The Odeum Theatre, down the street, is in the process of raising money for renovations required before it can reopen. Representatives from OSTC appeared before the Historic District Commission Wednesday night seeking approval of plans to modify the exterior of the building. The building, owned by Allen Gammons, is within the town’s Historic District but is classified as a "noncontributing property." That lessens the possible restrictions, but it still needs HDC approval to exterior changes and Wednesday night the panel …

This would not only benefit all of the businesses in town, but it will help establish EG as a center for the arts (especially in conjunction with the Odeum reopening) outside of downtown Providence. Everybody wins!   more ›
