Cherish the Ladies returned to the Greenwich Odeum last Sunday night and it was rousing, lively show of Irish music and dancing, led by the funny and talented Joanie Madden. The video attached recaps a bit of it. Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Saturday night's grand re-opening was a rip-roaring celebration of Rhode Island performers making music.
The evening kicked off with trumpeter Ritchee Price's sparkling rendition of the National Anthem and through eight more acts, the enthusiasm stayed strong and the acoustics rang true for the Greenwich Odeum's reopening concert. The encore song, performed by the entire ensemble, perhaps said it best, "Oh Happy Day." That happy day was gained after four years of considerable effort. Strict fire regulations put in place after the 2003 Station Nightclub fire in West Warwick killed 100 people led to the Odeum's closure in 2007. The town's decision to put the Odeum back on the property tax rolls in 2009 kickstarted efforts to reopen the theater. It's almost here: The Greenwich Odeum is slated to re-open Saturday for a "soft opening" fundraiser with live music and a silent auction. The Main Street theater is still waiting for a certificate of occupancy, but Fire Marshal Steve Hughes said Thursday he didn't "foresee a problem with them opening Saturday." UPDATE: The Fire Marshal issued a temporary certificate of occupancy to the Odeum Friday morning for the Saturday event. According to Hughes, who said he only learned the Odeum wanted to open Saturday because he read it on the theater's marque driving to work last Monday, "They've been making steady progress. The Greenwich Odeum will hold a volunteer kick-off brunch on Sunday morning, Jan. 22, at 11 a.m. at the Varnum Armory on Main Street. All past, current and prospective volunteers are encouraged to attend and learn of the variety of opportunities. As the renovation project continues, volunteer needs range from jobs related to physically preparing the building to reopen and handling administrative tasks to a number of opportunities once the theater reopens this spring. “During the 13 years we operated as a very successful performing arts venue, we relied solely upon volunteers for virtually all our needs,” said Frank Prosnitz, Odeum president. “We were one of the best volunteer stories in Rhode Island, and we will be again.
