The question is, where does East Greenwich begin and Warwick begin?
The hunters were crouched in the reeds nearby the lower trail at Scalloptown Park and Wildlife Refuge. A brace of ducks were on the water just in front of them. What were they waiting for? Shoot the ducks! Upon closer inspection, I realized the "ducks" were decoys. Of course! But is duck hunting allowed in East Greenwich? No. It's not. What recently occurred in a quiet Connecticut town was no fairy tale.
Once upon a time there was a place where people could buy assault weapons with ease. A land, beautiful and filled with people who loved it, was also a place where television shows promoted deceit, anger and ridicule. Children played on swings while teens looked towards their futures. They also took lots of tests, played violent games and spent hours away from each other communicating via technology. This place had people who cured illness, landed a ship on the moon, sent billions of dollars for aid to other nations and recently raised funds for a town destroyed by a Hurricane. What to love and loathe about East Greenwich this week.
RANT: It seems to me that enough people have weighed in with their opinions over what is being euphemistically referred to as “The Incident” at the high school this week that I don’t need to throw in my (frankly uneducated) 2 cents worth. This is obviously a fraught issue and, regardless of the legal outcome, something that our community will continue to grapple with for quite awhile. The thing that struck me, though, was how few people even questioned that a teenager could apparently easily get a hold of what are effectively weapons of mass destruction. I would suggest that if you are going to express your opinion, you would take the time to educate youself on the topic. It is clear that most of the people who have chimed in on the topic are ignorant to the game laws, the city and town property lines and our states most important document.
