Senate Dist. 35: Hodgson Ahead With Most Precincts Counted

State Sen. Dawson Hodgson leads by more than 2,000 votes over Win Hames; Dist. 35 includes parts of East Greenwich, North Kingstown, South Kingstown and Narragansett.

In the race Senate Dist. 35, arguably the most strangely configured district in Rhode Island, incumbent Dawson Tucker Hodgson looks to have won re-election over Winters B. Hames III, with all but two precincts (one each in South Kingstown and Narragansett) reporting. Hodgson, a Republican, had 7,272 votes by midnight Tuesday. Hames, a Democrat, had 5,181 votes. The totals include all the votes from East Greenwich and North Kingstown. According to the R.I. Board of Elections website, in South Kingstown, 11 out of 12 precincts had reported vote totals as of 11:50 p.m. In Narragansett, 6 out of 7 precincts were in by 11:50 p.m. Senate Dist. 35 includes most of East Greenwich, part of North Kingstown, part of Narragansett, and a small piece …

Hames Brings Years Of Local Involvement To Senate Run

The Narragansett Democrat says he'll be able to get things done at the State House.

Narragansett Democrat Winters B. Hames III said he's looking to unseat Republican Dawson Hodgson in the race for state Senate District 35 because as a Democrat he'll be able to get more done. "I think I could do a better job than Dawson," Hames said in a phone interview Monday. "I can work with the Democrats that are there. It’s very difficult for a member of the minority to get things done. Look at Dawson’s legislative record. You don’t get things accomplished that have to get accomplished." General Assembly Candidates To Debate Oct. 24

Mark Curtis of ABC 6 and EG Patch's Elizabeth McNamara will moderate debates between state House Dist. 30 candidates and state Senate 35 candidates at the Varnum Armory next Wednesday.

Candidates for the R.I. House District 30 and Senate District 35 General Assembly seats will meet Wednesday, Oct. 24, in a debate sponsored by East Greenwich’s Republican and Democratic town committees and East Greenwich Patch. The debate will be moderated by ABC-6 political reporter Mark Curtis, an East Greenwich resident, and EG Patch editor Elizabeth McNamara. “The Great Debate” is set for Varnum Armory, with the State Representative candidates Anthony Giarrusso, Mark Schwager and Kevin McDonough taking the stage at 6:30 p.m. and State Senate candidates Dawson Hodgson and Winter Hames taking their places an hour later.
