Another Crash On Ives Road

The driver was arrested for driving under the influence.

A man driving south on Ives Road in Potowomut near 670 Ives Rd. ran into a tree and bounced back into a stone wall, taking out a good chunk of it, a Warwick police officer at the scene said. The man was taken to Kent Hospital with none life-threatening injuries, police said. Police got a call on the accident at 8:43 p.m. The driver was arrested for driving under the influence. No name was released. A 42-year-old man was killed a week ago – April 6 – while driving south on Ives Road. In that instance, the driver, Alfred Coletti of Warwick, drifted into the northbound lane and then into a tree. The speed limit on Ives Road is 40 miles an hour.

Ives Road Crash Victim Identified

The driver in the single car crash was Alfred Coletti of Warwick.

Police have released the name of the man who died following a single car accident on Ives Road in the Potowomut section of Warwick late morning Friday. He is Alfred Coletti, 42, of Warwick. The accident took place just before 11:30 a.m. near 630 Ives Rd., on a stretch of the road between the two entrances to Goddard Park. According to a witness, Coletti’s SUV was traveling south on Ives Road when it drifted into the northbound lane and continued across the roadway, crashing into a tree. According to Warwick police, Coletti was the sole occupant of the vehicle; he had to be extricated by the fire department. Warwick Man Killed In Ives Rd. Crash

The single-car crash in Potowomut took place between 11 and 11:30 this morning.

A Warwick man, 42, died after the car he was driving struck a tree on Ives Road in the Potowomut section of Warwick late Friday morning, said Warwick police. The man was taken to Kent Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Police are withholding the man's name pending notification of his family, said Warwick police Capt. Joseph Coffey. A witness told police that the driver was heading south on Ives Road, then drifted into the northbound lane before crashing into a tree about halfway between the two entrances to Goddard Park. Coffey said the call came in at 11:28 a.m. Traffic was diverted through the park for about 2 1/2 hours while police and rescue officials were at the scene. I've lived on Ives Road for 17 years and previously visited my parents here for 11 years before that. There have always been people speeding and the police have never really done anything about it unless we call them. Then they sit in their car and maybe stop a few of them.
