Boy’s Lacrosse team looks to defend Division II Championship title Monday against South Kingstown.

The EG Boys Lacrosse team came out with guns (and sticks) blazing Wednesday against the Providence Country Day Knights. Captain Kyle Carosotto, who scored the first goal just over a minute into the first quarter, said after the game, “We came out with a fire in our hearts and an uncommonly strong start.” EG’s offense continued at an aggressive pace with another four unanswered goals in the first quarter.   PCD kicked off second quarter with some fire, scoring one goal early on; however the Avengers were quick to come back with another four goals resulting in a 9-1 EG lead at the half. EG’s defensive efforts were successful throughout the game, with numerous saves by Goalie Jack Trutza. The Avengers scored another three goals in the second…

Avengers Boy’s Lacrosse Team Advances To Semi-Finals

EGHS comes on strong in second half to win over Middletown Islanders 10-5.

The Middletown Islanders headed into Wednesday’s quarterfinal game hoping to unseat the EGHS Avengers, who led this year’s Division II with an undefeated regular season record and a league record 158 goals. Despite a strong first half, their hopes were dashed with a strong second half by the Avengers putting the game out of reach for the Islanders, 10-5. The Avengers scored early against the Islanders with goals by Captains Kyle Carosotto and Ethan Zink, with Middletown hitting back with goals of their own. All season long the Avengers have struggled with slow starts and this game was no exception with EG ending the first half with a slim 5-4 lead.   The pace of play picked up in the second half with three unanswered Avenger goals in the …

Kim, Sadly, EG Patch has no budget for sports this year, so we're relying on the parents or students to fill the gap. I will try to cover some playoff games, but if there's anyone out there who can even just snap a photo or two and send me a few lines of info about a particular game, I'd love it! Any other suggestions on how to cover sports better are appreciated.... elizabeth.mcnamara@patch.com   more ›

Boys LAX Win Last Regular Season Game Against Mt. Hope, 9-6

EGHS Boy’s Lacrosse Team Enters Post-Season with 13-0 Division Record

The East Greenwich High School Boys Varsity Lacrosse team traveled to Bristol last Monday to face the Mount Hope Huskies for their last regular season game. The Huskies strategy of aggressive play proved challenging for the Avengers, who ultimately found their way to a 9-6 victory resulting in a 13-0 division record for the season for EG.  The Avengers lead the league in goals scored with 158 with only 66 goals against the team. Leading scorers for EG were Ethan Zink (45 goals/35 assists), Kyle Carosotto (40 goals/17 assists), and Ryan Trinque (26 goals/10 assists). Goalie Jack Trutza had a 60 percent save percentage and the team presented a strong defense led by the efforts of Connor Finn, Britt Conde, and Matt McBreen. Supporting the …

Mount St. Charles Mounties Can’t Hold Back Avengers

EGHS Varsity Boys Lacrosse team leads division with 8-0 record.

The Mounties took first blood in Saturday’s varsity lacrosse game against the EGHS Avengers, scoring just seconds into the game. Strong defense on both sides resulted in no additional goals in the first quarter.  Mt. St. Charles continued their aggressive play in the second quarter, ending the half with a 4-2 lead.  The Avengers were just beginning to come back in the third quarter when they scored a frustrating goal against themselves. However, as with recent games, the players came back strong, scoring eight goals in the last half of the game. The Avengers were able to hold the lead, resulting in a 10-9 win against the Mounties to further their lead to 8-0 within Division II and 9-1 overall.  Captain Ethan Zink led the team’s offensive …

Catch The Excitement: Join EG Lacrosse

Lacrosse enthusiast and EGLA board member Jeff Jordan writes about why lacrosse in East Greenwich does so well.

Although the East Greenwich lacrosse program has doubled in size over the past three years, there are still many people that are unfamiliar with the sport. Lacrosse is the oldest sport in North America. It is the fastest growing youth sport in the country and is considered to be “the fastest game on two feet. The East Greenwich Lacrosse Association (EGLA) offers something for everyone, both boys and girls from kindergarten through the 8th grade. There are recreational and competitive programs (similar to EGSA and EGBA). Since the state moved the boys program from strictly recreational to one with a competitive league as well, EG has performed extraordinarily well. The fifth and sixth grade teams have won the state championship every year …
