5 Things You Need To Know Today

Five Things: Town-School Budget Meeting

Your guide for life in East Greenwich today, Jan. 7.

School Committee/Town Council meeting: A “pre-budget” discussion is on the agenda … in other words, the budget discussions for Fiscal Year 2014 (which starts July 1) begin! Weather: It’ll be in the 30s today but is supposed to be in the 40s during the day for the rest of the week. Goodbye snow. Outdoor Ice Skating: The town’s two rinks are open for skating – the plus from all the recent cold weather. One rink, pictured here, is downtown, at the basketball courts at the bottom of Eldredge Field. The other is at Shovlin Park, off Middle Road. School and town officials voted to approve a $1 million renovation of the library in the fall, with the understanding that a 40 percent RIDE reimbursement would only be given if the project was finished by the end of the year. “Punch list work is going on,” said Mercurio, referring to the to-do list of usually minor items that’s drawn up at the end of a project. Furniture, fixtures and equipment (FF&E) have been delivered, he said…

Thank you Elizabeth, but this should have been disclosed to the taxpayers at the SC meeting. I can tell you that I was at Cole Saturday for my son's basketball and the outside lights were on by the side road that goes beyond the school. I have also driven by the school late at night...after 12:00 PM and all the inside lights are on? This is unacceptable and who is paying for all of this? Why no …   more ›
