Cole Students Go Global

Cole Middle School students host United Nations Night to benefit Unicef.

Passport needed to gain entrance at Cole Middle School? That was the case one night last month, when students held a United Nations Night to benefit Unicef. Passing through the glass doors of the middle school, you could easily understand why. On your left, France was passing out croissants while wearing berets, while on your right India was offering henna and japatis. Cole Middle School had truly gone global. At the beginning of the school year, the Unified Arts teachers sought to plan a large event for their students. United Nations Day was the perfect outlet for that goal. Cole Girls Hoops Finish Season With Loss To Ponaganset

The Smithfield team overpowered EG in the first round of the playoffs, 49-39.

After a near-perfect regular season, the Lancers were handed a tough defeat Wednesday when they went up against Ponaganset Middle School in the first round of the playoffs. Ponaganset won 49-39. “It’s hard because we wanted it so bad,” said eighth grader Krisitin Carosotto, who scored 12 points in the game. Cole was down 15 points going into the fourth quarter. Courtney McMullen had back-to-back baskets to start it off and the Lancers outscored Ponaganset 13 to 8 in the fourth, but it wasn’t enough. McMullen had a good game, scoring three 3-pointers in the first half. “She had more 3’s today than we had the whole season,” said Coach Jason Martin. “It was a very physical game,” he said. “We had one of my players home sick today, my backup …

First Middle School Graduation In Cole's New Gymnasium

Archie R. Cole Middle School graduated 205 eighth graders yesterday morning.

There was standing room only in Cole Middle School’s brand new gymnasium yesterday morning during their eighth grade graduation.  Rhode Island Senator Dawson Hodgson was in attendance.  The ceremony began with a rousing rendition of “Pomp and Circumstance” performed by the Cole Middle School Band, after which Student Council Vice President Brendan Reposa led everyone in a salute to the flag.  The Cole Chorus continued the morning with a performance of “For Good,” from the musical Wicked. Before he presented the class gift, a check for a new sound system, Student Council President Dan DePetro shared memories from the past school year and told his fellow graduates, “This is a day we will remember forever.”  Dr. Victor Mecurio, superintendent…
