Middletown takes advantage of two turnovers by East Greenwich in the second half to take the Division III Super Bowl 33-21.
EAST GREENWICH – Middletown capitalized on a pair of East Greenwich turnovers early in the second half to score 14 points and salt away a Division III Super Bowl victory, 33-21. The Islanders had a 19-7 lead with 1:28 left in the first half, but EG’s Andrew Miner ran a picture perfect two-minute, no huddle offense to score in about 60 seconds. The Avengers went into the break trailing 19-14 as a result. However, Middletown held the Avengers to a three-and-out on their initial possession of the second half. East Greenwich limited Middletown to six plays on their drive, but Alex Cleary couldn’t handle a punt, and the Islanders took over on EG’s 33-yard line. Shemar Vincent recovered for Middletown. It took Middletown seven plays, but …

In wake of the controversy surrounding Middletown High's decision to cut short their Homecoming Dance, we find out how EG handles contact-dancing known as grinding.
The uproar that greeted Middletown High School's decision Friday night to end the Homecoming Dance early has prompted wide discussion about the alleged cause of the trouble – grinding – and how best to manage high school dances. According to Middletown Patch's story about the incident, students were upset at the no-grinding policy and began to protest, prompting school officials to end the dance more than an hour early. Grinding, according to Wikipedia, is "where two or more dancers rub or bump their bodies against each other," especially crotch to buttocks. East Greenwich High School's Homecoming Dance took place Sept. 28 and pep rally the day before had its own controversy (with at least two students diciplined for throwing batteries at…

The relentless ground attack of the defending Division III champion Middletown Islanders proved to be too strong for the Avengers fatigued defense and resulted in East Greenwich’s first official loss of the season. “We didn’t compete in the fourth,” said Avengers coach John George after the crushing defeat. “No one seemed to step up and make a big play when we needed it.” Middletown’s backfield duo of Kevin Nash and Randy Butler utilized the Avengers defensive complacency, combining for 261 yards on the ground. “We tend to start games off slow and pick it up in the later quarters,” stated running back Kevin Nash. “That’s just how are team has been operating this year.” Nash’s words proved valid in the outlook of Friday’s game. …
