Avengers Headed To Super Bowl; Beat Quakers 25-13

EG will play Middletown in the D III championship game Sunday afternoon at Carcieri Field.

The East Greenwich Avengers came out strong Wednesday night against the Moses Brown Quakers at Carcieri Field, and stayed in front the entire game, winning 25-13 and a berth in the Super Bowl Sunday. The Avengers haven't been in a Super Bowl since 2006. They will play Middletown, the only team that's beaten EG this season. Middletown beat Narragansett 34-14 in their semi-final contest. The Avengers dominated the first half, with a touchdown by Carney Crawford (no extra point) in the first quarter and a TD by Meran Topalian in the second quarter. Off a fumble by Moses Brown with 2 minutes left in the half, Alex Cleary scored a touchdown (no extra point).  The Quakers got on the scoreboard at the end of the second quarter, with a touchdown …

After a near-perfect regular season – including a win Thanksgiving Day against Narragansett – the Avengers take on Moses Brown tonight at 6 p.m. at Carcieri Field. The Booster Club is promising free cowbells to the first 60 students (after all, you can never have enough cowbell). EG Beats Moses Brown, 39-21; Remains Undefeated

By winning against the previously undefeated Quakers, the Avengers remain tied with Middletown in first place.

The Avenger Football team advanced their winning season with another win, cheered on by a large contingent of EG fans filling the stands and sidelines at Moses Brown’s Campanella Field. EG and Middletown remain tied in first place of Division III. EG came on strong in the first quarter with touchdowns by Palmer and Crawford, as well as an extra point kick by Cleary. Moses Brown responded with one touchdown and extra point resulting in a 13-7 EG lead at the end of the first quarter. Just under a minute into the second quarter, Dan Josloff recovered a Quaker fumble, running it in for a touchdown. Josloff left the game after being called on a dead ball foul related to that play, his second personal foul of the game. The quarter continued …

EG Boys Hoops Top Moses Brown, 62-52

After a foul-heavy first half, the Avengers focused on scoring in the second.

Down by six points at the half, the Avengers Boys Basketball team came back to beat the Quakers 62-52 Friday night. Brandon Eckles, a sophomore standout, was the night’s high scorer, with 18 points for EG. Possibly too pumped up by the large, cheering crowd that turned out for the third annual White Out game, the Avengers ran into foul trouble early, receiving more than a dozen fouls to the Quakers’ three in the first half, which ended with EG down 32-26 at the half. In the second half, the Avengers came back. Junior David Hopkins made three 3-pointers in a row, the last one tying the score. That was all EG needed. From there, they were able to pile on the points and widen their lead. Sophomore Ben Chester went 5 for 5 at the free throw …

Avenger Football: EG Clinches Win Against Moses Brown, 18-13

EG played with passion and resolve, coming back from a 13-12 deficit in the fourth quarter.

The East Greenwich football team rallied to win at Moses Brown Saturday 18-13. The Avengers played with passion and resolve, coming back from a 13-12 deficit in the fourth quarter. EG jumped out to an 12-0 lead, as senior QB Dan Miner connected on touchdown passes to Kyle Palmer and Peter Hunziker, both juniors. Moses Brown rallied back in the second quarter, scoring twice in a five-minute span with a effective on-side kick. The Avengers went into halftime down 13-12, and coming off a three-game losing streak. However, the maroon-and-white were undaunted, and the defense held Moses Brown scoreless in the second half. EG Field Hockey Team Beats Moses Brown, 3-1

They will face Barrington in the state championship Tuesday at Cranston Stadium at 6 p.m.

East Greenwich Girls Field Hockey will get a chance to retain its state championship title on Tuesday, after beating Moses Brown 3-1 in the semifinals at Cranston Stadium on Sunday. EG will face off against Barrington in the championship. The two teams met one other time this season, resulting in a 1-1 tie. Barrington beat Bay View Sunday 1-0 to make it to the championship. EG beat Bay View in last year’s state final. “The game was fantastic,” said EG Coach Deb McMullen. “It was just a well-played, pretty evenly played game. ... We just, we wanted it a little more.
