Student Artists Win State Award
Four East Greenwich High School students win Scholastic Art Awards.
The Rhode Island Scholastic Art Awards are given out yearly with the idea of providing recognition, support and scholarship opportunities for creative young artists throughout Rhode Island. This year, four artists from East Greenwich High School were recognized. Teacher Amanda Rogers had two students recognized: Phoebe Osterhout, an 11th grade Art Studio 1 student, and Patrick Wong, a 12th grade AP Art student. Here's what they had to say about their work: About her piece, Self Portrait, an 18x24" work of graphite on paper, Phoebe wrote: "This is a portrait that magnifies my face so that it is larger than life, and the eye is staring straight out. The window in the background is meant to show how 'the eyes are the windows to the soul.'" …
