EGHS Senior, Her 'Team' Assemble 5,000 Meals For Local Food Pantries

Rebecca Nunez raised the money and organized a team to put together nutritious meals ... lots of them.

Forty people, lots of foodstuffs, and one hard-working EGHS senior put together 5,000 meals ready for distribution to local food pantries earlier this month. Senior Rebecca Nunez raised more than $1,500 to buy the items needed for the meals, using the Kids Care model.  Founded in 2004, Kids Care has been helping communities, schools, places of worship, businesses and service organizations around the country to package nutritious meals, all fortified with soy protein, nutrients and vitamins. Very good work Rebecca and the rest. Right now 67,000 households in RI don't have enough food, this according to Andrew Shift of the Food Bank. (Shift is quoted in the Providence Journal today). He also points out that the SNAP program (food stamps) helps 24% of RI households.
