5 Things You Need To Know Today

Five Things: Baseball, Wine & Daffodils

Your guide for life in East Greenwich today, April 18.

Avenger Home Action: Boys JV Baseball takes on Portsmouth today at 4 p.m. You can follow all the Avenger action at the EG Booster Club website here. Daffodils: They are everywhere, but for a special treat, take a drive down Avenger Drive. Last fall, the EGHS Student Council, with help from the school’s Environmental Club, planted more than 3,000 daffodil bulbs all along Avenger Drive. “Come spring, that stretch of roadway will no longer be the barren stretch of road we're all so used to, but rather covered on both sides with beautiful daffodil blooms,” wrote EGHS junior Paige Smith in a story on EG Patch in October. Wheeler’s 65th Clothing & More Sale: If you’re willing to drive all the way (!) to Providence, this sale is a reputation …

Holiday Spotlight: Local Craft Brews, Wine 6-Pack From Savory Grape

The Savory Grape has lots of gift ideas, but their New England beer 4-pack is a special favorite.

The folks at The Savory Grape wine and liquor shop at 1000 Division Street are BUSY this time of year. That's because their shop is chockful of great gift ideas. But they've worked hard to take some of the guesswork out of the gift-giving process too, with these wine and beer offerings. In the beer category, they're offering the New England Lover Craft Pack. "We had a hard time creating this pack because we absolutely love so many New England breweries and their creations. Love, love, love these!" they write. The beers include Allagash Confluence (Portland, Maine), Cisco Brewer Moor Porter (Nantucket, Mass.), Greysail Stargazer Imperial Stout (Westerly, R.I.) and Smuttynose Old Brown Dog (Portsmouth, N.H.), for $44.99 in a box with bow.  …

Savory Grape Launches ‘Savory Affair’

According to owner Jessica Granatiero, the event coordinating business is a natural outgrowth of their retail wine business.

The Savory Grape started, six years ago on Main Street in downtown East Greenwich, with a fairly simple goal: to take pressure off buying a bottle of wine, offering down-to-earth advice. “In 2006, the whole idea and goal was you could educate people about wine, that they could feel comfortable and not intimidated,” said Jessica Granitiero recently. She and husband Nino Granatiero own the wine shop. She was talking last week, however, as the proprietor of a new business, The Savory Affair, an event planning and design company that launched this summer. The Savory Grape is, no worries, quite alive and well, doing what it does so very well – educating Joe and Joanne Consumer about different types of wine and making them feel good about their…

What's Your Favorite EG Liquor Store?

Vote on which local liquor store is your go-to for all your beer, wine and liquor needs.

With the unofficial start of summer — Memorial Day — only a couple weeks away, it's time to break out the BBQ, stock the freezer with grillable meats and — of course — fill the fridge with your favorite adult beverages. Maybe you want to cool down with an ice-cold beer, relax on the deck with a refreshing gin-and-tonic, or fill your glass with your favorite red or white varietal. Whether it's beer, wine or liquor, there is no shortage of liquor stores in the area to supply you with your favorite spirit. Just about any liquor store will carry plenty of Jack Daniels, Absolut, Sam Adams and a typical assortment of table wines. But any true connoisseur knows it's all about the selection. And some liquor stores are better than others at …

Savory Grape's Wine Festival Raises $20,000 For R.I. Food Bank

This was the event's fifth year.

Surpassing last year’s total of $18,000, The Savory Grape wine shop collected a record amount of money for charity at its 5th Annual Fall Wine Festival on Nov. 5. More than $20,000 was raised from the event, all of which will be donated to the Rhode Island Community Food Bank. “The Savory Grape began doing this festival as a way to give back to the community and Rhode Island as a whole,” said owner Jessica Granatiero. “Many children and families suffer and do without food, housing and clothing. As a good corporate citizen we want to do our part to help these families. It gives my partner Nino and I great joy to know our hard work and efforts have made a difference to others.” More than 275 people attended the festival, which was held for …
