How Much Snow Will EG Get?

Forecasts vary, but East Greenwich looks to get a couple inches, and it looks like much of Rhode Island will be spared major snow totals.

Will East Greenwich see significant snowfall this weekend or will it be an inch with rain mixed in? The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather alert for the weekend as a wintry mix makes its way toward the region. But how much snow East Greenwich is expected to get depends on how warm the temperatures remain. Forecasts vary, but most expect just a couple inches in EG. ABC6 is predicting 1-3 inches; WPRI 12 has East Greenwich getting 1-4 inches; and NBC 10 predicts "a few inches." The National Weather Service is calling for about a half-inch.  Snow and rain are expected to begin sometime Saturday afternoon, switching back and forth between all snow, all rain and a mix through the evening. After midnight, it should remain …

More Snow This Weekend, But How Much?

East Greenwich could see another 8 inches of snow.

Once again, the snow is melting. But once again, don't put the shovels away. Because once again, the weekend is bringing us more snow. A new snowstorm is headed our way for Saturday and Sunday, which could dump another 8 inches on East Greenwich.  The local forecast calls for snow to begin early Saturday afternoon, briefly switch to a mix of rain and snow, and then return to snow overnight, according to the National Weather Service. It should continue snowing through Sunday afternoon, leaving 4-8 inches behind across much of Rhode Island. Snow totals escalate the farther north you go. A foot or more is expected for much of Massachusetts, and more could fall on East Greenwich depending on how long rain works its way in. Temperatures are …

[VIDEO] Overnight, DPW Clears Snow From Main St.

Starting at around 10 p.m. Tuesday, the crew shoveled, plowed, and vacuumed up snow from both the street and the sidewalks.

Snow is so pretty as if falls. But the reality of all that heavy snow from last weekend's blizzard was anything but pretty on Main Street by Monday. Drivers struggled to find places to park, pedestrians had to navigate through or over giant snow mounds, and store owners lost business. The EG Department of Public Works made it all – most of it anyway – go away in a significant operation Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. That Main Street snow? It's now piled up in the parking lot above the town boat launch on Crompton Avenue.   "We understand the importance of Main Street," said DPW director Joe Duarte. "I wish we could have done it Monday."  The rain Monday interfered with those plans, as crews did yet more snow plowing and had to …

Rants and Raves

Why Oh Why Oppose Gay Marriage & Snow Love

What we love and loathe about living in East Greenwich this week.

RANT: Two of these things are not like the others, two of these things don’t belong: Senator Dawson Hodgson  Former Fox new hosts Glenn Beck and Bill O’Reilly Clint Eastwood Senator Leo Raptakis New York Ranger Sean Avery Former basketball player Charles Barkely Former VP Dick Chaney State representative Anthony Giarrusso C’mon. Mssrs Giarusso and Raptakis. Wake up and smell the spiced chai. You are fighting a losing battle on the gay marriage thing. But do what you have to do. As for me, I don’t care who a person marries ... as long as it’s another person. Seriously. The other day, I googled “pet marriage legal” and one of the concerns that popped up early in the search was whether it is legal to marry your dog (it seems cats and …

Joel, children should absolutely be exposed to this. It should be considered part of life in the world they live in NOW. 100 years ago, you could replace "gay marriage" with "integrated schools". It sounds absurd, but 100 years from now, it may be that your comments would sound equally as absurd. Look, we all want to protect our kids, but gay marriage is a fact of life today, as we know it, as …   more ›
