Hershey Track Meet: The EG Parks & Recreation Department's local edition of the Hershey Track & Field meet will be held at the High School Track. Registration will begin at 4:45 p.m. and the signature of a parent is required. The meet will begin promptly at 5 p.m. (In the event of rain the meet will be held on Friday, June 15.) If you haven't stopped over to the market yet this season, today looks to be a great day for it! from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Teen Center: The coolest place in town on Fridays — the gym at Eldredge plays host to local teens from 6 to 8 p.m. Yoga For NK Animal Shelter: The Art of Zen is an hour-long yoga class followed by an hour of art making and merry making at Shady Lea Mill. What to love and loathe about living in East Greenwich this week.
RAVE: Mea culpa. I know I complained about the proliferation of billboard signs popping up around town a few weeks ago, but I have to admit that I am loving the rogue homemade library book sale ones. The Friends of the Library, who put on the annual book sale, have limited funds and would much rather the money go towards things like community programming and updating the library’s equipment than printing signs. So it’s great to see our community step up on their own and post (and I hope eventually remove) their own signs. I can understand their enthusiasm. Though I've been telling myself for the last couple of months that I'm not allowed to buy any more books for the foreseeable future (and to use the library resources instead), I HAD to…

The budget now under discussion eliminates the Main Street Coordinator position and reduces money to the EG Animal Protection League and the Teen Center.
Town Manager Bill Sequino’s 2013 budget proposal comes in $3 million higher than the 2012 budget, thanks largely to a $2.1 million increase in debt service. But there are some cuts. Under the plan, the Main Street Coordinator position — currently held by Bruce MacGunnigle — would disappear. It is a half-time position; MacGunnigle’s half-time job in the Town Clerk’s office would continue. As Main Street Coordinator, MacGunnigle has organized the Main Street Strolls, which happen to resume this Thursday. He has also worked with the Downtown Planning Initiative, which is in the process of becoming the nonprofit Main Street Association.
