Kyle Palmer Named Football First Team All State

What Super Bowl? Avenger Football's got a First Team All Stater!

Senior Kyle Palmer has been named to the Providence Journal's First Team, All State for football, capping a terrific season that saw the Avengers in the Division III championship. Carney Crawford, a junior, was named to the Second Team.  "This is a big deal for a Division III player, as most of those spots go to Division I kids," said Avenger coach John George. The Avengers made it to the Super Bowl for the first time since 2006, losing to the Middletown Islanders, 33-21.  "Kyle Palmer led the state in interceptions with 10. He consistently made big plays for us on both sides of the ball, at times when the team needed it most. Crawford rushed for 1,900 yards this season."   George said Bill Geary, who's been keeping stats for the team for…

Fall Athletes Honored With All State & All Division Awards

Three EGHS athletes earn All State first team honors.

A number of EGHS athletes were honored at the end of the fall season with awards from coaches and from the Providence Journal. For the second year in a row, Aleksandra Drljaca made the All State first team for tennis. The sophomore led the Avengers to their second-place finish in Division II. Junior Keri Pallister was named to the All State first team for field hockey. The Avengers field hockey team lost to Barrington in double overtime in the state finals. “It was really nice,” said Pallister. “I wasn’t expecting all those awards at the end of the season.” Pallister also was named first team All Division, as well as earning an award from the East Greenwich Pendulum.
