Cole Lights Are Off At Night, Repairs Being Made

It's still unclear who's responsible for the problem, School Committee members are told.

Neighbors may be able to to rest more easily now - the lights are off overnight outside Cole Middle School, School Committee members were told at Tuesday night's regular meeting. According to Ken Romeo, with project manager Strategic Building Solutions,  contractor Griffin Electric finished its evaluation Friday. "Two total power supplies were replaced and some relays and sensors were found problematic," said Romeo. He said those will be ordered soon and replaced once they arrive. He also said the exterior lighting power panel needs to be replaced, but for now they are manually turning them off and on. The lights had been on 24-7 ever since late August. They could have been turned off, but there was a fear that they would not go back on so…

This sounds like a Irene storm farce... simple ....bad planning..bad electrician. What worrries me is this the tip of the iceberg with all that is wrong with this project.....time will tell. What did we really get for our money? What will this cost for the shoddy work?   more ›

Cole Lights Remain A Problem

The lights are still on 24-7 at Cole and no resolution to the problem has been found.

Lights still shine brightly outside Cole Middle School in the parking lot and inside the building as well. According to officials, damage incurred during Tropical Storm Irene in late August. What exactly went wrong and why remain unanswered questions. According to Ken Romeo, with Strategic Building Solutions (which has overseen school construction), some of the indoor electrical panels are burning out decades faster than they should. Three such panels have been replaced, he said. Investigation of all the panels is taking place now. "There no sense installing new parts until we find the root of the problem," said Ken Romeo of SBS, which has been the company overseeing school construction. Meanwhile, as we neighbors have blinding lights each and every night, "we'll wait and see what the report says". Haha EG at its best. Let's hope this electric bill doesn't get passed onto us taxpayers. You can bet if these lights were an unconvienience for someone important, the problem would certainly not have taken 3-4 months to solve. Another fine project!   more ›
