I think the SRO is a service for the town as well as the school. The more an SRO is with the students, the more likely s/he is to identify and solve problems early. For instance, the SRO catches wind of a party planned while parents are away- they would intervene and potentially stop it. No problems in that neighborhood, no beer cans on the lawn and no drunk drivers. That's good for all of us.
And don't forget the work the SRO and Bob Houghtaling do with troubled kids. Those relationships are vital to keeping students and the community safe. -

On the article Is Main Street Safe For Pedestrians?

ReplyIt's definitely a combination of driver speed and inability to see pedestrians between cars. Many times I have been driving down Main Street (not too fast, of course!) and felt badly that I passed by people in the crosswalk because I couldn't see them until I was practically at the crosswalk and it was too late to stop. You are either hidden between the parked cars or standing in the traffic.

I guess my forgetting that Christmas is actually a religious holiday proves how secular it is!

ReplyI hope the question is whether to take off religious holidays rather than Good Friday v. High Holidays. We should be in school for ALL of them!

Great video, CWC! Love the reminder that our choices make us... should be on a banner in the cafeteria.
