I studied writing and English and American literature at Brown University, including a semester in Dublin, Ireland where I fell under the spell of James Joyce and Seamus Deane and Smithwick’s. I was fortunate to land a copywriting job right out of college and have been writing every day ever since. “Writing is a craft, not an art,” William Zinsser points out in his great book, On Writing Well. “Very few sentences come out right the first time, or even the third time.” Amen.
