ReplyFolks, the point isn't whether people should drive more slowly on Main Street - obviously they should, there and elsewhere (mea culpa on that one) or whether young kids should cross unattended or not - my kids are tweens and teens but I know I was cycling/running all over my town when I was much younger - the point is: STOPPING IS THE LAW - for teens, tweens, young kids and old people and everyone in between. And the law clearly needs to be enforced. End of story.

ReplyWhew - that's the last time I go away for a computer-free weekend! I don't think I have much to input here since Alan has so ably said what I would have had I been online (thank you!). However, since being succinct has never been my forte, a few comments:
1) Alan is correct - I am not a reporter. And as a columnist, I see my role as being the "huh?" person who hopefully asks the question or makes the point that the person on the street is asking or thinking. Yes, I may sometimes sound uninformed or - as I am sure some of you would put it - stupid, but I am ok with that if what I am asking is generating discussion and, hopefully, answers. Which certainly seems to be the case here.
2) I was being provocative when I suggested a demo of the decrepit house. I hoped to get some attention paid to the fact that there is a perfectly good - and historical - house going to waste. I have to admit that I am a bit hazy on where the town border is in those parts but that doesn't lessen my irritation and frustration over what seems to be an official acceptance re the state of the house. It kills me when I see land razed for new housing while we have homes which have withstood most of the vicissitudes of time standing empty and going to waste - but that is a rant for another day.
3) Why meters? Because they make sense - so there! -

ReplyThank YOU, Mr Patti, for a clear and informative response - and for continuing the discussion. I admire anyone who is willing to give their time and energy- both of which seems to be in as short supply as ready money - to our town and to figuring out how to keep East Greenwich a great and hopefully affordable place to live. I don't want to think about elections for at least two years - but if your name is on the ballot, I won't skip over it again!

ReplyI would come out on Saturday if I were in town, DownTheHiller - but that would be to support the Land Trust - from whom I heard about the event. I am not disputing that Pat needs help - but he also needs to communicate with our community.

ReplySummer's End is also a proud sponsor of the Great Graffiti Contest as part of its mission to support the arts in East Greenwich. May the best sprayers win!

All I can say is that flags seem to work and have been working in Wakefield. Are people just more honest or law-abiding there?
