Being Black And Working In EG

RI Future's Bob Plain talks to two men who work at Office Recycling Solutions about the George Zimmerman verdict and what it's like to be one of the few people of color in East Greenwich.

Cedric Simms, of Warwick, and Kona Boylowlu, of Providence, work at Office Recycling Solutions on Rocky Hollow Road. They are black and they take the bus to and from East Greenwich each day.

EG's Bob Plain, editor of RI Future, talked to them last Friday about Trayvon Martin and the verdict in the George Zimmerman trial and he asked them about what it's like to work in East Greenwich.

While the two men – not surprisingly – did not think justice was served, it was their comments about working here in our town that grab attention. From being called the n-word on Main Street while waiting for the bus to being followed by the police as they walked from Main Street to Rocky Hollow Road, it's not a picture of a welcoming place.
