Laying New Pipes: One Of Hotter Jobs In EG This Week

While most of us are staying in air conditioning or heading to the beach, for those people who work outside, weeks like this one are particularly brutal.

EG Patch talked to Ray Coelho of A.G.I. Construction, the company replacing natural gas lines under the streets on the Hill this summer.

By 9 a.m. Thursday, his crew had already dug up a block-long trench on Spring Street, swapping out old gas main line with a new plastic line.

He said they drink lots of water and take breaks in the shade. The worst part of the day comes last, when they need to patch the trench with asphalt.

As Coelho said, "But what are you gonna do? You have to work, you know."
