Verdi Named Producer Of Year At Film Fest

The award was created to recognize the EG-based film producer, who has produced six films since he got into film production just three years ago.

Chad Verdi is on a roll. In three short years, the East Greenwich resident produced six films (having never produced a film before), and this fall he will be working side by side with Martin Scorsese on “Bleed For This,” a movie based on the life of R.I. boxer Vinnie Paz.

Last week, the Rhode Island Film Festival honored Verdi as “Producer of the Year,” the first person to receive the honor.

“That was very nice. It was great,” said Verdi Thursday. His focus now is solely on Bleed for This, the project he got into the movie business to make.

“Right now it’s only about this project. This is it,” he said. “We’re going to go into pre-production in October and we’ll be done with this film by April of next year.”

The film will be shot “all over Rhode Island,” Verdi said, including East Greenwich.

Members of Scorsese’s team arrive in a couple of weeks to start scouting out locations. The Oscar-winning director himself will be here between October and December.

“It’s a big deal,” Verdi said. “This is what it’s all about.”
