The Big Blue Bins Are Coming, The Big Blue Bins Are Coming!

Our street got ours today – the 96-gallon toter that replaces the smaller green and blue recycle bins we've used for years.

It's not just the (significantly) larger container that's new, however. The new bins will only be emptied every OTHER week, starting the week of Sept. 23.

And, the container will be picked up by a mechanical arm, so all recyclables need to be in it – not piled up nearby or in any other container.

But don't panic. Instructions are included with the new bins. And EG Patch will help everyone remember what week is recycle pickup week!

If you're wondering what to do with the old containers, you can keep them. Or, if you don't want to keep them, the town Department of Public Works has set aside two dates for residents to turn them in: You can drop them at the EG Highway Garage on Bear Swamp Road off Frenchtown Road on Saturday, Sept. 28, and Saturday, Oct. 19, between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m.

You'll find an article with more information about the program here. If you still have questions or concerns, post them in the comments section and I'll get the answers!
