In the "unlikely as all get out" department, this marriage proposal ranks. A gay man proposes to his boyfriend via flash mob at a Home Depot (!) in Salt Lake City (!!). But the best part, for us in little old East Greenwich? The song used in the proposal – Somebody Love You – was executive produced by none other than Peter Thomas (a.k.a Pete Walsh, EGHS Class of 2009).

Bakery For Main St., Pizza Near Frenchtown

When we've asked what people would like to see on Main Street, inevitably a few people will say a bakery, a place where you could buy a fresh baked loaf of bread. Wish answered. Signs on the former Symposium Books shop herald the coming of Palmieri's Bakery – that Palmieri's, of Federal Hill fame.

R.I.'s Teacher Of The Year: EG's Own Pat Page

It was an all around surprising morning for Patricia Page, Rhode Island's 2014 Teacher of the Year. The East Greenwich High School Business and Computer Technology teacher was called, as the whole school was, to an assembly at 8:30 a.m. to hear about the school's success with a social media campaign known as #EGHSmatters.

Odeum Update: Mortgage Being Negotiated, Shows Possible Soon

Odeum Theatre Board President Bruce Rollins appeared before the Town Council Monday night and reported shows could resume as early as October in the Main Street theater. He also said he has been talking with Steve Erinakes, who converted the former movie house into a non-profit theater in the 1990s, about a way to resolve questions about ownership of the theater.

Obituary: Christopher 'Pop' Popoloski, 45

Christopher "Pop" Popoloski, 45, passed away suddenly Friday. A resident of Providence and its unofficial mayor, he was a son of Georleen "Jolli" Howlett former owner of Botanica Flowers, E.G. and of North Kingstown and Louis Popoloski of Scituate.

EG Woman To Plead Guilty To $5 Million In Fraud, Money Laundering

East Greenwich resident Sojin Lim, 60, of Fox Run, has agreed to plead guilty to one count each of bank fraud and money laundering in connection to an alleged scheme to defraud Rockland Trust Company of Massachusetts of more than $5 million.

Warwick Mayor Moves Forward With Plans For Potowomut Fire Station

Warwick Mayor Scott Avedisian has asked his City Council to approve a contract to demolish the vacant Potowomut School building on Potowomut Road to make way for a fire station. The move could cost the Town of East Greenwich $350,000 a year – the amount Warwick pays EG to provide fire and rescue service to the Potowomut area.

Police Log: Rifle Or Telescope? & Gas Siphoning

Saturday, Aug. 31, 6:08 p.m. – Police arrested a Providence woman, 21, for driving with a suspended license after she was stopped by police because a passenger wasn’t wearing a seatbelt and the rear license plate was not properly displayed. Police gave her a court summons and the car was driven away by a friend.

Avengers Pick-Up Pre-Season Football Win Against Chariho

Not able to live without our Avenger football fix this fall -- Stephen and I have decided to continue to photograph for the team despite our son Duncan having gone off to college.  I’m not looking forward to the cold, rain and snow …. but the upside is that we get to be on the sidelines again with a great group of coaches and athletes.
